I, too, was taught as a child by my mother. My mom was a phenomenal knitter, always getting blue ribbons at the county fairs. I never got beyond scarves, but my dad still uses one I made for him 40 years ago! I don’t knit now, but I taught my daughter. I didn’t have much to offer, but it was enough that she caught the knitting bug. She’s the best knitter I’ve met, doing amazingly complicated patterns (think: Pompom magazine). I am so happy that I was able to pass on the knitting bug to a third generation, even if it basically skipped mine!
One of the girls in my college dorm taught me how to knit my freshman year. My mom taught me how to sew, cross-stitch, ribbon embroidery etc. when I was a kid.
My best friend had recently learned and invited me to join her group that met at Borders weekly on Sundays. If that tells you how long ago that was. LOL. My first project was a dishcloth and after spending hours on that I said never again and made scarves and hats ever since.
