Hey everyone. I've mostly been lurking on here, but I suppose I can introduce myself as I've been engaging a bit lately. I appreciate the admins creating this instance and hope to learn some stuff here.

Power platform/Azure developer here. Self hating microsoft dev ha. Familiar with .NET framework and have been using .NET core a bit as well. Javascript a bit as well.

Formerly worked in operating system deployment. SCCM.

Linux and open source enthusiast. Hoping to one day make some contributions to software whose focus is functionality and not just constant (unnecessary) changes to satisfy their need for regular growth ($).

I've been lurking for a few weeks as I explore reddit alternatives, and I think I'm ready to dive in here and start being more active.

I seem to be the only person here who isn't in IT or a software developer, but I'm in an adjacent field (data analytics) and am pretty technology minded. I work from home in Kentucky for a California company, and I never want to set foot in an office again.

As for hobbies and interests, I play hockey, tinker with my smart home (Home Assistant), and get lost in Paradox grand strategy games.

I'm a former IT/Help Desk/Something with SQL dude with deep-seated feelings regarding super hero movies, bi-erasure, and Applebuddies. When not actively fleeing the steaming shit show over at Deaddit, I enjoy comic books, vidya games, horror films, cooking out of leftovers, and bringing about world peace. My star sign is “necrotic” and my favorite place is “in a wheelchair wearing a sombrero”.

Greater Seattle-area guy. Many interests mostly technical and software-related. Sailor, woodworker, traveler, avid reader. Pragmatic progressive. Elder Scrolls Online solo-er. So very, very glad to find a place that isn't flooded with fans, stans, shills, bots, &tc. Cheers!

I moved here about a week ago at the start of the blackouts at reddit, figured it's time to say hello. Initially I was just looking for a reddit alternative, but I'd actually been growing more interested in the federation concept already, so Lemmy was really cool to try to learn. I'm still figuring things out, but quite enjoying it.

I wound up on partizle.com from join-lemmy.org where this instance had a description along the lines of "friendly and tech-minded." I'm a CS student and consider myself fairly friendly so here I landed. I originally saw it as a portal to the rest of the fediverse, but I'm digging the local community too.

I've been here for a few days, so I figured I should at least introduce myself. I'm an engineer from Georgia, and I must say that I've been enjoying this little corner of the fediverse, even though I haven't interacted much.

Hello! I'm a CS student who just enrolled in college. I have interests in almost all aspects of computing such as front end, backend, apis, algorithms, cpu & gpu architecture, OS details, networking, just the whole shabang. I live on the west coast of the US.

I'm also into playing a couple games such as Factorio, Minecraft, and TF2.

I love to learn so feel free to hit me up if you'd like to chat about any of my interests.

Thanks for taking the time to listen, l'll see you guys around!

I live in California and I work as a software engineer. Although programming is what I do for a living, I cast a pretty wide net in terms of interests. In school I majored in CS, physics, and took 2 years worth of control theory. I did my senior thesis on fractional calculus and dimensional regularization and I did research on drone swarm seeking and neuromorphic computing.

After moving to SoCal and getting my apartment, I got pretty into 3d printing. I bought a Ender 3 Pro and inherited a Makerbot Replicator 2x which afaik exchanged 3 sets of hands who weren't able to fix it (my friend's friend's company was the original owner?). I fixed* it. Now I'm using it to build the parts for a Voron 2.4.

*The Makerbot is really fucked. For some reason it homed in the back right corner and thought it was the front left corner so it started to drive the printhead and it makes this alarming sound with the skipping belts. Then what's also really annoying is that the print head gets way too hot so it actually softens the plastic at the extruder gear so it just grinds at it instead of feeding the filament (technical term is "heat creep"). My current fix is to periodically remove the top so the hot air can vent, but not too much as to make the print warp from the cold air. It's an art :(.

Hope this was a sufficient introduction. Nice to meet you guys!

Hello, I joined partizle a few days ago because it was an open registration community for tech minded people

I'm a software developer (full stack javascript) who got laid off earlier this year but now I'm running a small startup that's currently burning through me and my friend's savings, but it's the happiest I've ever been.

I'm not really nomatic (I have a cat to take care of) but I travel around 50-100,000 miles per year for leisure travel.

Hello everyone,

I'm based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. I've spent time in Europe though have primarily been in Southern Spain.

I'm a father of three young children and am entering my second year studying a second bachelor's in CS and Cognitive Science. I have done some grad studies in AI where I primarily worked with Python, although I'm currently learning C++.

I tend to be very busy, but am hoping to become a part of this community and network with like minded people interested in tech. I'm looking to gain experience and have thought that contributing to open source would be a good first step, but not sure about where to start and what projects to contribute to.

I'm interested in all things tech, Linux, and Android.

Reddit refugee here, just looking for a place on the Lemmyverse that's not overrun with drama. I've lived in both America and Canada, work in sales, no kids or pets.

I like poker and blackjack and try to make it to Vegas at least once a year (love that town).

Trying out Lemmy as a Reddit/Digg/Slashdot alternative. New to Lemmy, but not the Fediverse (I can be found on mastodon at @[email protected])

Professionally, I write Ruby, Rust, and Python and have done so for a bunch of well-known (and less-well-known) tech companies. I live in California.

Hoping that this instance stays stable and that this particular branch of the Fediverse finds success!

I came here because:

  • Reddit is sucking
  • Open registration (yes)
  • Moderation policy sounds reasonable
  • I like technology too

Me:

  • Primarily a Rails dev, but I'm getting more into Flutter lately
  • 3 kids
  • Enjoy homebrewing
  • Live in Southern California

I reside in rural Kansas, about an hour from Kansas City. Mostly because it's cheap and I like the slow pace of things. For work I run a small IT consulting company -- mostly web, email etc for small businesses.

I used to play WoW, but it's been kind of "over" for a while and I haven't gotten into any games since.

The dude abides.

Stumbled across this community and cannot be more excited to participate and spread the love of the tech.

Little about me....... Been in various IT positions for the last 20 years from big corporations (some that are big and blue) to smaller organizations. Currently working more in the devops space as it relates to cybersecurity.

Passions in tech include:

  • All things Linux and open source.
  • SoC board development and usage (specifically RISC-V)
  • Music (Punk, Indie, Alternative)

And when im not doing something related to tech, I enjoy hiking, kayaking and taming my kids & Siberian Husky's

Hi. I mainly joined lemmy to have a new place to look at content that interests me, I don't plan to post in communities often. I'm an android enjoyer, I like retro video games, and that's basically it. Nice to meet everyone.

iOS developer here. Just curious about lemmy.

In my spare time I look for astonishing new cocktail recipes and pet my cats.

Have I found the right place?

  • Live in Miami, Florida
  • Politically homeless moderate
  • I like technology, golf, and fitness

I know it's trite to be an Apple fanboy on the Internet, but here I am!

Anyone else read Daring Fireball?

Hi ! I've learned about lemmy.ml in a reddit comment, learned that the lemmy.ml instance was a bit overwhelmed, scrolled down a bit and found partitzle.com ! So here I am.

My guess is that this server is located close, since it only has about ~10ms latency, which I find very satisfactory for my browsing experience !

I'm a C++ software developer working in Paris, France. Dad of one

@admins how can we help ?

Also a dad and I know the iceman from his ice cold Python skills.

I’m originally from the US but moved abroad some years ago and have only looked back a few times. Python is my jam.

Lately I’ve been getting more into fitness because I want to keep up with my kid when we play. I enjoy travel and technology.
