I have an area between two houses that has for years lost a lot of soil due to water runoff from the front roof. That runoff is now resolved via gutters and a drainage pipe to the back, so now the struggle is what to do in building the terrain back up flat, best cover plants, etc.

The first thought is to just throw down some top soil to build it back up level and then grass seed, but I'm betting that's the wrong way to approach it, especially since it's now cooler and heading into winter. I could just wait until next year, but I'd like to repair what I can beyond just putting dirt down (which could still erode and be a mess).

The area had lost probably a few inches of top soil and grass from original construction, down to the clay substrate. There is some tree coverage as well, so it's partial shade which I know is problematic for good grass growth. I'm open to other cover plants, but it does have semi-regular foot traffic with landscapers, kids, pets, etc.

Is there a reasonably quick fix to do something?

We are coming to the end of winter here in Australia and it's time to get my garden beds ready for the upcoming growing season. I've got some weeding to do and general tidying up around the yard before spring is upon us. So welcome to today's gardening timelapse!

We have some hops that are starting to go a little rogue that were planted at the edge of our berry garden. Unfortunately they are starting to crowd out our berries and we want to remove the hops.

Short of digging them up, is there a safe chemical way that won't impact our berries?

I did some cursory reading and read that too much sun can cause white/black spots, I keep it next to a south facing window but it's not getting completely baked out in my lawn or anything. Is this normal/fixable?

What are you using as ground cover?

I'm losing the battle against my neighbor's weed farm (literal weeds like goutweed (Aegopodium podagraria), not even the fun ones) and need some good suggestions for ground cover. I've already planted a ton of geraniums and they're great, but some variation would be nice. I live in Denmark, which means winter temperatures occasionally get down to around -20 oC /-4 oF.

While they're cute and all, chipmunks are destroying the root systems of some well-established shrubs in my yard. Does anyone have any tested and proven methods for repelling them from certain areas? I don't want to poison or trap the little buggers, but I'd like them to stop killing things. I also don't want to make any of the other wildlife (mainly the neighborhood owls, hawks, and other birds) or my dog sick.

My neighbor has a groundhog living under their porch. They don’t seem to mind and neither did I, until I found one of my tomato plants had been eaten. I’m 99% sure it was him because I’ve seen him hanging out in my driveway.

Most of my garden is fenced in, so that should help, but I have a couple tomato plants in large planters that I’m now worried about.

I sprinkled some peppermint oil around the planters because I read that might help. I have a cat, and read used kitty litter may scare it away… but that seems a little gross tbh.

Anyone have any hog-repelling secrets?

Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to gardening, this is my first year attempting to plant anything and I planted some peony bulbs. I was just wondering why some are sprouting so far away from where I planted them? For instance in the pic I planted at X and I've circled where it decided to pop up. Is this common?

Edit: I must've chosen the wrong creation type for the article cause it's not previewing the image but just click the title, I promise one is there!

My wife and want to plant a Chocolate Chip Buggleweed (Ajuga Reptans) alongside a thin but long section next to our patio. Does anyone have a good link to get it from seed? Or is something like this best from plugs? I have found the following but feel sketchy about getting seeds online:
