Hello, community!

r/fossdroid moderator here! I just wanted to chime in and explain that I created this community quite some time ago to check out Lemmy "back in the day", when it still was pretty unstable, etc. and then practically immediately abandoned it.

Shortly before and during the Reddit blackout, many people flocked to Lemmy, resulting in the instability of many major Lemmy instances. This and some other reasons led me to host our own instance, called FOSSware.

You don't have to re-register there. Just subscribe to fossdroid with your already existing Lemmy account.

See you there!

It would be cool if one of the more artistic members could donate an icon, since this community is one of the few without one.

ImgurViewer support a large hosting services, (not only imgur.com), and very useful to open any image/video quickly.

Make it default app or use share and select ImgurViewer

One of the things I struggle is to discover new or popular apps, because of the lack of stats on f-droid (privacy first, I'm not complaining). So I'm interested on the community knowledge.

For me the best ones are:

  • Syncthing (device synchronization over LAN or internet without a centralized server)
  • Omnivore (read it later and newsletter reader)
  • Wifi Analyzer
  • LocalSend (Multiplatform alternative to AirDrop)
  • Proton: ProtonMail, ProtonCalendar, ProtonDrive, ProtonVPN (secure services with E2EE and full remote serve encryption of your data)
  • DuckDuckGo: DDG browser, DDG Email protection, DDG app tracking protection
  • Material Files
  • Simple Galery Pro
  • OnlyOffice (FOSS office suite)
  • K-9 Mail (multi-account centralized email app)
  • P!n (small notes/reminders on your notification bar)
  • Termux A linux terminal for your android. Personally I use it for managing Git repositories on wich I store my personal notes
  • Bitwarden Password Manager with free synchronization. Multiplatform also.

Github

It's not unmaintained:

WARNING: This software is no longer actively developed. We will still apply security fixes where reported, and do basic maintenance work, but no new features or will be worked on. We will try to consider and merge contributions where possible.

Hopefully it'll get forked soon. This is what I use to sign/check and encrypt/decrypt emails with K9. Best FOSS alternative on AOSP phones.

Often people tend to say due to the lack of funding open source apps have bad UI and also sometimes terrible UX. While it’s not entierly false I’ve found myself some beautifuly designed apps and wanted to share them here.

Hey FOSS people, does anyone know if there is an alternative to Tapet app but open source?

It is a simple app that procedurally generates beautyful material design backgrounds
