Today, with the release of 0.1.1 I decided to rename this app to Arctius, to stop the confusion with OS Firefox fork called Fennec.

New home for the app's updates: [email protected]

New things in the 0.1.1 include fixes for posting in mod-only communities, some typo fixes, new tab in settings to edit profile (display name, bio, email - for now that's all) and image uploading for posts. Post with link to new release, and all new posts will be created in new community. Cheers.

Make sure to subscribe to our new home -> [email protected] Link and full changelog will be here. Next (0.1.3) version announcement will be the last one in this community!

New thins in this release: new comment navigation, bigger touchable zones, instance ignoring and design fixes.

As I'm getting tired of linking same post over and over about app's name and since it seems as a major concern for some people, I've decided to hold a vote for future name of this app.

Have variants, think that current or my proposed name is fine, or anything else -> comment here. Let your voice be heard.

Current variant I'm thinking about:

  1. Silverfox - no similar names on froid, some similar names on play store, that are not really popular anyways.

Don't forget to use Obtanium to get latest releases automatically. :)

I have nothing to do with your software, just saw this sub by random chance.

I would like to warn you that the Fennec name is already taken by a Firefox fork for android. It might get confusing once you want to upload your client to f-droid repos.

While we're not on the google play store, you can use Obtanium.

Short tutorial:

  • download Obtanium
  • go to "Add App"
  • type in "https://github.com/nick-delirium/lemmy-fennec/" to the first field and add the app.

Voila! Now you will get all new releases automatically or notified about it if you will chose "track only" mode.

I've been a bit slower lately due to taking a vacation, but I'm still making changes, new features and improving stuff that's here already :)

This updates brings comment/post editing, saved posts feed (inside "star" tab, neighbours with followed communities list) and some more smaller improvements

Small update: going to make a hotfix since post editing actually spawns a new post for some reason haha

Bigger update:

0.0.9 hotfix is out, download it instead: https://github.com/nick-delirium/lemmy-fennec/releases/tag/0.0.9

Hello!

I've recently verified my account as a developer and created an internal testing release of a 0.0.5 version (the same one on the github releases). If you're interested in using Google Play signed version, please send me your email in messages. Thank you.

it feels like everyone starts building once I come home from work 😭

I can't remember where I found out about Fenenc, but it's surprised me by how slick it feels compared to all the other Lemmy apps I've.

Everything loads so fast and the scrolling has zero jitter. The other apps I've tried just dont compare for speed.

The up/down vote percentage is a nice touch I havent seen anywhere else.

My only gripe is that changing feed type/sorting method feel unintuitive to me, but its not a major issue.

Anyway, I just wanted to drop in and give some support. I'll be using Fennec a lot more going forward and hope you keep it up.

It was also nice to see its written in React Native so I might drop in a PR.

I think, at this point, app is pretty stable and useable, I'm even planning to submit it to Google Play Store for private testing (mostly for the convenience of updating the app).

If you tried this or previous versions, hows your experience was so far? Don't be afraid to share your opinions, requests and spotted issues. My phone is pretty large and its the only way I test my own app, so maybe I'm missing something design wise? Are the lists (comments, posts) working fine and fast?

And, as usual, I'll be glad to have some contributions.

Not much real substance to this but I really love the icon you chose in the new release!

I am in search for a nice looking android app for Lemmy. But I am confused, is this the same app as the firefox-ish browser "Fennec"? Thanks in advance

And I'm actually writing it from the app itself. Never thought I'd come this far :)

If you're reading this, you're one of the very first people who stumbled upon my app.

I figured that it will be easier to talk about lemmy inside lemmy, not just github, where not everyone has an account.

Feel free to ask me anything, request a feature or report a bug.

Github repo: https://github.com/nick-delirium/lemmy-fennec

My todo board: https://github.com/users/nick-delirium/projects/2

Froid page: TBA

Play Store page: internal testing, message me for details to get in.

Like the app? Spread the word.

Thinking about other fennec app? Me too.

Any better ideas for name? Feel free to share.
