Latest in my personal experiences of "you never know to where or how your #fediverse posts will be federated".

My mastodon post getting a reply from a lemmy user. Mastodon-lemmy integration is not good, so seeing it happen passive was weird.

Instead, what happened here (AFAICT):

• An #mbin "magazine" sucked up my post due to a hashtag (I think)
• Added it (for some unclear reason) as a post to it's equivalent of a community
• Then federated that to #lemmy as such

So the brazillian migration to #bluesky has pushed their total user count to ~8.9M (https://bsky.jazco.dev/stats).

This is now greater than #mastodon 's ~7.5M (https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon) which would also be inflated by account migrations and having more time.

Total #fediverse users is still greater at ~11.9M, but that's likely with a lot of overlap.

Interestingly, there may not be too much overlap between fedi and bsky (though clearly some), so all up the "free network" could be at ~10M users?

You know the phrase I've heard more in the #Fediverse than ANYWHERE else?

I think this sums up the culture here pretty well. People just LOVE to tell you how you've got it wrong. This ESPECIALLY applies to posts that aren't even TRYING to be opinionated. There is just this vocal contingent (sometimes german? always male) that is hell bent on making sure there isn't "Someone wrong on the internet"

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client (v0.12.0) has just been released. This has some big updates including: being able to reshare Bluesky posts, a "focus mode" that lets you lock down the UI to only let you post/edit/comment on your own posts, and fixes for stuff that changed in the latest Friendica release from last month, and some other smaller bugfixes/tweaks. It is in review in the Apple Testflight for iOS and macOS as well as in the Google Play beta system. Downloads for Android, Linux, and Windows are on the install page of the main project. I keep seeing a former harasser of mine, that I've blocked numerous times now, show up on my federated feed with new accounts.

This is another major downfall of Fedi.

It's way too easy to block evade and harass others.

They didn't harass me this time, but seeing it gives me anxiety...

Verification will very quickly become an issue on Fedi, I believe.

Even now, we have multiple "Linus Torvalds" accounts.

Some have thousands of followers and a few posts, but do we know if any of them are actually him? Including the newest one on .social...?

Obviously Linus should know how to paste a link into a website he owns for verification.

However, if normal users can't do it, it's not good enough. What happens when/if celebrities start signing up? They're not gonna be linking to a website they own for verification.

Fix your software or recommend other software that does better.

We shouldn't be actively promoting the worst software for moderation.
