It's the most wonderful time of the year for cozy gamers - the Wholesome Games Steam Celebration is up, which means that some of the best indie gems are on sale.

Plenty of games are steeply discounted on Steam, GOG, Epic, itch.io, etc. right now, and I'm looking for some cozy games to get me through the winter in the Northern Hemisphere. What are your best recommendations? What's keeping you cozy nowadays?

In praise of AER Memories of Old (store.steampowered.com)

Ahead of the presumptive sales that Steam, Epic, GOG, and other vendors will offer this holiday season, I want to sing the praises of a six-year-old cozy game that is worth your time: AER Memories of Old.

This game just has "chill" all over it. The visuals are basic but beautiful, I really like the artistic choices. The world of floating islands in the sky is interesting and makes you want to explore it. And as one reviewer on Steam said:

It's a game about being a bird Heck yeah, I've always wanted to be a bird

The flying in this game really is fun and easy, there don't appear to be ways to die, you're just soaring around floating clouds and islands, finding lost relics and funny little hidden details. It never stresses you out. The few puzzles that do require some light 3D platforming and timing are so forgiving that even I had no trouble. There are some camera issues and control mechanics that are less than perfect, but they don't present much of a challenge when the puzzles are so forgiving.

And most importantly for me, AER has a beginning, middle, and end. You can spend a long time exploring the world, or you can move through the story pretty quickly. But the story does end, and it doesn't take 100 hours, and I love that.

No place like home (no-place-like-home.fandom.com)

I recently got pulled into No Place Like Home for switch. It's a nice little indie farming sim with a big focus on cleaning and recycling. It seems to walk a fine line between power washing simulator and harvest moon that I find a lot of fun.

Tiny Life - Pixelated Sims! (store.steampowered.com)

Found this really cozy to play. One of the comments on the listing kind of nails it, which was "it's like a demake of the Sims."

Blurb off Steam:

In Tiny Life, you control a set of people that live together in a household. You take care of their daily needs, build their skills, forge new relationships... or just mess up their entire life in whatever way you can think of

Was hoping for a cozy gaming community! Here's hoping more people participate xD.

I enjoy playing mostly life sim and survival games. Recently picked up BOTW since I saw a lot of cool videos with TOTK. What's a cozy game for you?
