Areo press is my goto brewing method, with the V60 being second. I had to replace the coffee grinder as the Krups one stooped working, this one is nothing fancy, but it grinds the coffee much better causing me to enjoy coffee more thab ever.

Do you:

  • make a small cup with it
  • blend it with something else
  • buy more of the same
  • curse that you didn't use it earlier for a larger last cup

We just installed a reverse osmosis (RO) filter system at our house, because the tap water tastes gross. I tested the TDS and it was 3ppm! I thought "oh that must be great, pure water," but my friend told me you actually want minerals in there to help extract.

So... Anyone else in this boat? I know there are RO systems that will remineralize after the filter, but ours doesn't.. And I don't think I want to uninstall this beast. I know there are little drops you can add, but they seem expensive... Just wondering what y'all other home brewers do. Thanks!

The Gaggia Classic Pro Evo is out! Click here for a full review. This is a 2023 revision on the much loved Gaggia Classic Pro which also punched far above its price class. The Evo is around $500. If you're looking for a deal, now might be a good time to snatch up a refurbished unit of the older model. I found one for $375 with a web search.

Here is a separate video of the differences between the two models in more detail. The title post is a full review/overview.

Edit: I just realized you can't have both an image and a linked video unless you put the link in the body. I added the actual full review link at the top.

Anyone tried this new grind by weight grinder from Eureka? Thoughts?

For anyone who needs a spoon to slurp coffee out of, or just for eating ice cream or cereal or whatever. Chopsticks too. Extremely cool maker, with sliding scale pricing.

I thought I had my brewing routine down to pretty much perfect, before I saw a Lance Hendrick video where he recommends sorting out faulty beans and getting rid of most of the chaff.

It may seem tedious to do for each cup, but for me it's worth it. The cleanness and quality of my brews improved drastically, making me enjoy black coffee way more.

If you're patient enough, give it a try, it pays off!

I use this in my double espresso every morning with a bit of vanilla creamer.

Am I a heathen?

Decaf Tips? (self.coffee)
submitted 1 year ago by PlaidBaron to c/coffee

So long story short, for legitimate health reasons I can no longer have caffeinated anything. Pretty much anything above a decaf coffee or a chocolate bar is unsafe.

Ive been doing decaf for a year now and its been ok but I was wondering if any of the experts had any suggestions regarding brands, methods, ect. that youve found is best for improving the taste.

I reside in Canada if that makes any difference.

Thanks, people!

It makes the best coffee and nothing else.

Are there any other home roasters in here?

My daily driver. Good quality, affordable, and locally sourced. Aeropress makes a rich cup and on occasion I do an overnight cold brew too.

Link to the actual routine

Not sure why Rowsell makes a big deal about the winner winning on "home brewing" gear. It's not like there are fancy ultra expensive drippers, and while the ZP6 is cheaper than the Comandante C40 (which, as I understand it, is a competition staple), it's not categorically different. (And through most of its short production lifespan, it's been harder to get than a C40, because it's usually out of stock.)

I imagine this may re-fan some of the hype around the ZP6. (By the way, if you're in North America, looks like [Rogue Wave(https://www.roguewavecoffee.ca/products/1zpresso-zp6-special) still has it.)

Having read and watched about flat-bottom and conical pourovers thanks to a previous post, I thought of two things: What about the common electric drip machine, and also will there be any difference with local coffee, since I've only used the drip machine exclusively with that?

The common coffee in my area is very different from what most experience here: It's a very dark roast of Robusta caramalised with sugar. I was thinking a conical pourover won't change it much, would it?

Turns out the answer is yes, it does. I understand what "clarity" means now, I definitely felt the difference. The downside is the acidity that people were referencing about with conical filters also came out, and it's not exactly a flavour I enjoy. Thanks to everyone whose previous comments made me try this little experiment. I'm now looking to the next step and get a flat bottom brewer!

I made a post around a week ago that really took off, and figured we are probably going to see a small spike in activity due to the reddit migration, so I thought we could give it another go!

There are always tons of posts about what beans you are brewing, but my question is HOW are you brewing those beans this week? Sticking to the tried and true v60? Pick up a new Orea and still figuring out the best recipe for it? Pulling some particularly sweet shots on your latest beans haul? Let us know below! What's your brew method of the day/week?

May be of interest to the decaf enjoyers. Hard to find really interesting decaf. (My fav is Hydrangea's El Paraiso Decaf.)

It's interesting that they gave it the same name as their lightest roast blend, but it's a medium roast ("moderate"). However, I don't know if that's just because decaf tends to roast a little visually darker.
