This album really landed for me when it came out. I was an angsty teen going through some general teenage angst and this song came along, sounding like it had been written just for me.

You couldn't pay me enough to go through teenagehood again, but the music was good.

Matador records was a great label in the 90s. Yeah.

I hate my hair, I'm so deep
Cut you a lock you can keep
You give me all I want
Subliminally in my sleep

I'm not sure they're well...

I haven't listened to this London band before, so will have to put them on the "to listen" playlist. I like this track.

A beautiful performance from Melbourne based artist, Gena Rose Bruce. I enjoy both of her albums that were released via Dot Dash Recordings. The most recent album has this interesting collaboration with Bill Callahan.

The debut single from a seminal Australian band of that era. This was released on the small indie label, Phantom Records and this video is for that release.

A few years later, it was re-recorded for their debut album that was released on rooArt an indie label that had a major label distribution deal. This is the video for the song in its re-recorded version.

Another relatively new band from Melbourne. They carry on a long (Melbourne) tradition of decent bands with names that could do with some improvement.

Warning kids: You might experience new feelings when listening to this. It's OK, that's natural for this music we used to call rock 'n roll.

At this stage of December, my thoughts often turn to El Vez's (the Mexican, punk rock Elvis) Christmas songs. This led me to uncover this gem from the El Vez archives. A backstage jam with The Sugarcubes, featuring backing vocals from BjΓΆrk!

Melburninans Jade Imagine are led by Jade McInally and have released 2 albums on Milk! Records. This is the title track from the most recent album and aurally evokes the oneiric sangfroid that its title suggests.

The road on which they are driving the convertible on at the start of the clip, is not so far from me, and I have cycled along it many times.
