Some people might remember that I already run the [email protected] community, which is dedicated to the visual novel engine Ren'Py. This new community is engine agnostic, and has a focus on more general VNDev discussions. It's supposed to be a fediverse equivalent to r/vndevs

Please feel free to share your progress with your own visual novel projects there!

[email protected] is an official fediverse community for Joplin, the FOSS alternative to Obsidian note taking/writing app.

I personally thought it's really cool that they decided to make an official lemmy community. Hope we can make it more active!

To help expand Lemmy's offerings, I recently made a new Lemmy Community that's based around the show Once Upon A Time.

! Link: [email protected]

Once Upon a Time is an American fantasy adventure drama series that aired from 2011 to 2018.

The show intertwines fairy tales with modern life, primarily set in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine.

The story follows Emma Swan, a bail bondswoman who is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.

She is brought to Storybrooke by her son Henry, who believes she is the key to breaking a curse cast by the Evil Queen, which has trapped fairy tale characters in the real world with no memories of their past lives.

The series explores themes of hope and optimism as characters navigate their dual identities.

New Supernatural Community

To help expand Lemmy's offerings, I recently made a new Lemmy Community that's based around the show Supernatural.

Supernatural is a long-running American TV series that follows the adventures of two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, as they hunt and battle supernatural creatures such as demons, ghosts, and monsters.

The series begins with the brothers searching for their missing father, who is also a hunter, and unfolds into a complex narrative involving apocalyptic themes, angels, and divine beings.

Throughout the series, Sam and Dean face numerous challenges, including personal sacrifices and moral dilemmas, as they navigate their roles in the fight against evil forces

H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos is a shared universe far larger and more terrifying than that of humanity, where ancient, malevolent beings known as the Great Old Ones slumber in the depths of space or time. After Lovecraft’s death, the Mythos has been expanded and developed by many authors, including August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard. These and many other authors have helped to flesh out the Mythos into a rich and complex Dark Universe.

A community to discuss Cosmic Horror in it’s many forms; books, films, comics, art, TV, music, RPGs, video games etc.

“cosmic horror… is a subgenre of horror fiction and weird fiction that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible more than gore or other elements of shock… themes of cosmic dread, forbidden and dangerous knowledge, madness, non-human influences on humanity, religion and superstition, fate and inevitability, and the risks associated with scientific discoveries… the sense that ordinary life is a thin shell over a reality that is so alien and abstract in comparison that merely contemplating it would damage the sanity of the ordinary person, insignificance and powerlessness at the cosmic scale…”

Analog horror can be seen as a descendant of creepypasta and found footage films. It draws inspiration from earlier works like The Blair Witch Project and The Ring, which utilized similar themes of manipulated media and unsettling narratives. The genre gained traction with the success of Local 58, No Through Road, and Gemini Home Entertainment. It is characterized by its use of low-fidelity visuals, cryptic messages, and a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of late 20th-century television and analog media, often set between the 1960s and 1990s

[email protected]

A creepypasta is a horror-related legend which has been shared around the Internet. The term creepypasta has since become a catch-all term for any horror content posted onto the Internet.

After the original mod being inactive for so long, i've asked the db0 mods for me to take this community. So, welcome back!

Rules

This includes the instance rules of dbzer0, which can be tl;dr'd to: no right wing nutjobs or tankies are allowed. As for the community rules:

  1. Be nice
  2. No bigotry/prejudice
  3. No tankies/right wingers
  4. Don't promote proprietary software
  5. Stay on topic
  6. No crypto
  7. Don't be a smartass and try to game the system, we'll know if you're breaking the rules when we see it!
  8. If you post news exclusive to a country please name it. (This isn't a bannable rule, but just a recommendation :) )

Why not:

Lemmy.ml

.ml is infamous for banning pretty much anyone they please. This community, while left libertarian, will allow conflicting viewpoints.

Lemmy.world

.world is too big, and has centralized a decentralized community. It simply does not fit, and is a net negative for the fediverse as a whole.

It also blocks VPNs, which goes against the essence of a privacy community.

Why dbzer0

Dbzer0 is stable, relaxed with the rules, and perfect for a topic like this.

Looking to do some nostalgic time-traveling via music? Look no further.

These are all older communities and are doing well in their own right, but they've been unmoderated and on autopilot for the last year and a half, so I'm looking to cultivate and grow them. Would like to get them active enough again to do weekly (or even monthly) roll-ups of the posts into playlists, have theme/genre days, etc. Suggestions are welcome.

I'm also looking for an additional mod or two for at least 60s and 70s; possibly even someone to transfer those communities to. I accepted those since the same mod who has been MIA since June 2023 also owned those. So, if those are your musical era and you want to help grow them, please let me know.
