What does it actually cost? I have no basis for a ballpark guess even. I've seen this question asked to a number of admins and haven't seen a direct answer.

It's hard to judge how sustainable a donation based approach is without that info.

Isn't this a case of take your own advice?

Many instances have already defederated lots of stuff. If you feel strongly about that shouldn't you migrate there over asking other instances to do the same thing? Seems like if he wanted to he would have here by now.

All just feel like fediverse problems and IMO the action should be take ~2 weeks off line and then evaluate there all the shit lands and decide. In thedude's shoes, I would have already pulled the plug on this as way to much hassle to get into the middle of. Props to him for not.

This is an interesting one.

It's easy to acknowledge that trump is a huge douche. You also have to acknowledge that about half of the USA voting public supported him.

It's easy to make the "even one nazi at the bar" argument online but it's kinda dumb in light of the huge number of supporters he had. Does that make the USA a nazi state? If so does that make the UN and nato? I think you would have a hard time assembling any group of folks as large as the community here without picking some of his supporters up. Is your local street/small town/college/whatever group nazi based because of that?

It doesn't help the political discussion at all to pretend a huge fraction of the population are beyond reason. Disagree with them all you want but they still exist and the world at large has to include them.

That all being said, I 100% support this change. Skimming that community and his posts makes its pretty obvious its just a troll and possibly an alt. If it was an organic community that would be different. This proposal is an excellent way to deal with a troll.

Based on betting sites, I see an estimated 83% chance Zuckerberg wins if they do it.

Seems more likely Musk backs out but I don't see those odds being tracked.

I'm pretty worried we will end up with more of an HOA then a democracy.

Not sure we can get the sort of voting going that will attract more then the local busy bodies.

"I can guarantee you anything you want."

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Nay.

All that stuff is basically 0 comment and 0 up vote. It doesn't look like you would end up stumbling in that stuff as trending or whatnot. Unless your subscribed to it or looking to be offended it looks like a non issue. I've yet to see anything from them other then in these complaint threads.

I'm sure there is offensive content everywhere if you really look for it. Even here hence the whole beehaw thing.

I don't think we should defederate to control what other folks expose themselves to. If they were brigading other instances or butting in to be a direct nuisance that would be a different story.

3rd try today trying to submit a reply. Apologies if they're there but I'm I'm just not seeing them

Small kegs aren't practically much bigger then regular 1 gallon jugs. It's right in the family kitchen fridge with all the other food. The co2 cylinder is only needed while carbonating and is otherwise stored in a cabinet. No co2 line is needed while using.

I've been doing that style thing for years and it's great. Have to say I disagree with his process a bit though. I don't have the space or time to let it carbonate for a few days.

I use a 1.5gal keg. Dump an inch or two of ice in the bottom and fill to about 1 gallon with water. My co2 regulator is set at 50psi. Connect co2 and shake for about a minute. You'll hear it stop bubbling. Leave connected on counter for 15 minutes. Light shake every time you feel like it for those minutes. Disconnect the co2 and put the keg in the fridge. Usually I leave it for another 30 minutes or so before having some.

No need to leave the co2 connected to serve with that pressure and space. You can be drinking the seltzer after that first minute if you want but it is better with that extra time. No patience for days.

I hated a soda stream. Pouring from a keg adds a little extra something for me. Way cheaper too.

I usually splash in a little margarita mix when I pour a glass. Just a little.

Buy a gallon or two keg and a co2 cylinder from a home brew shop to make your own. Much better long term.

If both a member of Beehaw and a member of lemmy.world are on a community on a third instance (like midwest.social), our comments and posts are invisible to eachother, like the other isn't there

Is that really how it works? It's contrary to my understanding but I can't find that covered in the documentation.

I assumed that the discussion on a post on a 3rd party server would be served by the 3rd party and I would still see comments from beehaw users on that posts.

Or the professor opening his wall safe. Too bad I can't paint.
