oh nice, subbed. I loved the subreddit and was hoping someone would make a community for Lemmy, so thanks.
I want to believe that freedom of speech is important, and that outright censorship of any view contrary to the mainstream view is not the way forward. But if you look at a place like Voat was (which prided itself on being truly free speech), my god what a shit hole of racists and homophobes that site turned into. So there has to be some degree of guidance.
BUT there also still has to be a way for people to critique their government, or else we end up with the thought police of Orwell's 1984.
I never had a problem with Wesley, and the actor (Wil Wheaton) gained more of my respect after I heard about the emotional abuse he was dealing with at home while the show was being made. To go through that and still put on a good performance is to be commended imo.
Yeah I assumed the title of this video would elicit downvotes, that's fair, it is a little too extra I agree. For the record I just copied and pasted the title from Youtube. But if you can get past that, the video itself is well researched and presented imo.
Just started Gene Wolfe's The Shadow of the Torturer after seeing some good reviews about his Book of the New Sun series, going in blind though and it's pretty slow so far. Let me know if you liked it and think I should keep going
oh man thanks for the nostalgia trip. the humor doesn't quite hit the same now though lol
Someone on discord said that Max Zhou (Anbernic employee) cancelled the device since they couldn't price it competitively
this was AWESOME! probably the best summation of the crop circles subject I've ever seen, along with the documentary "Crop Circles: Crossovers From Another Dimension"
someone needs to create a Crop Circles community here on Lemmy, I would definitely participate
I believe it is theoretically possible (through to probable) that von Neumann probes have reached our star system. I am not so sure about “aliens”. I am completely out on “other dimensions” (just can’t conceive of this being “possible”).
A third option (although it's a stretch for sure) is that they share this planet with us, based either in the vast unexplored areas of the oceans or in deep underground caverns. Would explain why they have an interest in shutting down our nukes, since if we blow ourselves up then we would take them with us.
glad to hear a second season is confirmed. not gonna spoil anything but can't wait till they get into what happens in the later books
Glad to see you find my spreadsheet useful, was thinking about posting a link to it in this community if that's ok.
as for my devices, I never really set out to be a collector, I just wanted the best possible experience for my use case of older 16-bit 4:3 games, which to be honest 90% of what I play are kaizo mario world romhacks. So I currently only use an Anbernic RG353M and an Analogue Pocket for handhelds, and a Raspberry Pi 4 and MiSTer FPGA for playing on a TV.
but at some point I want to get a powerful handheld capable of PS2 (like I mean all PS2). At this point it seems like only the windows handhelds are at that level but tbh I'm not interested in something huge like a Steam Deck or even windows in general actually. Odin seems nice but seems like it's not quite 100% PS2 capable, something in that form factor with a little more power would be ideal though.
