They are out there... I was doing some exploring of instances the other day. If you look at what instances are blocking it's pretty easy to see what is out in the fediverse.

Figured out Lemmy in about a day... Trying to setup my own instance... 4 hours of failure so far. Lol
I'm a android reddit is fun user for at least ten years and old.reddit.. I am surprised how much I like the Lemmy mobile interface just in browser. Desktop is ok but I have some complaints (centered, not utilizing the width, too much padding on elements). Tried the beehaw themes available, none that worked entirely. The default is totally usable, I'm just being picky. I tried playing around with custom styling but with the modularity of the css it wasn't easy to do just poking around for 15 minutes.
Thank you. You've given me some starts to look into!
Did you end up using a hosting provider? I'm interested as well but can't host locally.
Getting a compost bin this weekend... looking forward to getting started. Thanks for discussion.
A drink for such a happy occasion is in order this evening.
Yes, from their perspective it was a tactical necessity and I even heard it described as making sense from western analytical perspectives I've heard for that reason. However, it's just another monstrous decision by the RUF, a war crime and provided ample additional suffering, grief and misery to the ukrainian citizens in the region for russia's stupidity. Terrible all around. Hoping Ukraine still has great success on it's offensive.
A DMCA method, Privacy Policy and even a TOS is what is needed to make me feel more comfortable here. Right now, you have no idea what the plan is for your data (and its rentention), data collection, etc. I might dig into the lemmy code and see if I can sus it out myself if I have time.
For sure, reddit became less transparent with the data retention the further their success increased. In the past they claimed that ip addresses on your account would be removed after 100 days except for the signup IP. I did the GDPR requests for all my old accounts. I have one remaining that I deleted all the content off of until I was permenantly done (which looks soon now).
I just really dislike being targeted for ads and tracked for companies purposes to "advertise" to you. I run a dns sink hole, VPN, ublock on all my devices and I know it's still impossible to be truly anonymous online without being a weirdo and unable to live modern life.
I'm the sameway. I use firefox exclusively and have for years, love it, began using their password manager for a few years now and I'm thinking about an alternative to that I manage. I've already been a part of huge databreaches. I would sure hate for my passwords to be out there. I mean, it's dangerous AF.
Yes, you need sudo.
