Bit off topic, but what's the purpose of the '.[^.]*’ regex there? Wouldn't a wildcard * character suffice?

Google's trying to DRM the internet, and we have to make sure they fail in c/[email protected]

What part of this can be used for DRM? It looks like its just a crypto-graphically provable User-Agent, assuming I'm reading it right. Am I misunderstanding?
