If they don't give a shit about the fediverse why do they want to join it? Only Facebook can win from this.

I am curious if the servers in OPs post can de-federate and survive.

If the majority of the fediverse refuses to federate with Meta then this won't be a problem, because people on Meta's instance will never get used to interacting with people outside of it. And there will be no need for small instances to comply with Meta's demands in order to federate with them, because they won't be in a disadvantageous position if they don't.

People don't want a repeat of what Google did with XMPP

Read this; it could happen to the fediverse as well

Because his posts, comments and overall activity will not be shown in Meta's instance

My understanding is a little shaky too. I suppose companies are incentivized to target infinite growth so they can get the most money out of the stocks they hold, but this is a culture and greed thing, not a hard requirement.

I know about dividends but decided to keep the comment simple. Aren't dividends relevant only in utility and holding companies?

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is baked into capitalism. Stocks are attractive to investors because they want to sell them for a higher price later on, and stock prices increase when the company grows.

You can add an exclamation mark in front of a lemmy-style community link so that it automatically converts it to a link (similar to typing "r/sub" in reddit instead of just "sub".

Sadly have to agree with pornhub on this one. Besides being a glaring security and privacy hole, this will push teens to sites that fly under the radar, which are more likely to host "extreme" or "hardcore" porn. Or they'll learn how to use VPNs, but why risk it?

Does Linux have issues with CPU drivers too? Both my desktop and laptop have intel CPUs and I didn't have to fiddle with the drivers to install Linux in them.
