Thanks! I wasn't sure, so went for the gender neutral option

I am a Nebula subscriber, and highly recommend it. 90% of the stuff that's on Nebula is also on Youtube, but nebula doesn't have the ads. There's a bunch of creators who post Nebula first, an there's a number of "Nebula Exclusives", but by and by, if you look at who the creators are on Nebula (which you can do without signing in by following this link you'll see names that you recognise, or can look up on YouTube to get an idea of what they are like. It does mostly focus on educational and scientific content, as far as I can tell. The exclusives are more content from the same creators.

I wouldn't categorise Nebula as specifically more queer positive. It doesn't have comments, which helps reduce the number of trolls, and a number of the creators are openly queer, the same way they are on YouTube. I suspect they have an internal code of conduct that specifically prohibits homophobia and transphobia, but if they have it's not widely advertised.

You may have the impression it's queer positive because recently Abigail Thorn put up a recording of their play The Prince on Nebula, and that has been widely publicised. I have watched it, and enjoyed it.

As an aside, Nebula's main comments are on r/nebula. I wonder if they're considering setting up a lemmy instance themselves.

Windows. I have windows apps that I need to use at work, as well as MS Office functionality that is not well supported on MacOS. So at home I use the same OS, to avoid getting annoyed due to changes in the operating systems. I develop for Linux-based docker containers, though.

So, first day of Lemmy and so far I’m enjoying it. I’m looking through communities and seeing what I’d like to follow or not.

Criticism (hopefully constructive) that I do have:

  • I miss the random niche subreddit side of things, but I’m not sure if that’s as a result of lack people on the platform, or the UI not promoting that style of thing much.
  • I am missing a good iPadOS client. I’m currently using the Web UI, which works well enough, but it’d be great to have a more native app.
  • It seems strange that I can’t have a One True Fediverse Identity where my mastodon identity is the same as my lemmy identity and vice versa. I note that Takahē has started refocusing into more of an identity broker for ActivityPub and less of an online experience, so maybe it will be the one true unifying identity.

On the plus side:

  • There are a lot of fun general communities on here.
  • People are really nice, in general, and this doesn’t seem to be changing, compared to the histories I’ve been browsing
  • I really like markdown as a way to post, and it seems to work ok from my iPad

All in all, it’s been a positive 24hrs, I might give an update after a week or two.

Hi! I’m Moof, a 40-something Company Director, and Developer based out of Barcelona, Spain.

I have recently been diagnosed with Attention Deficit variant ADHD and I am currently going through the start of learning which meds work for me.

I also think I may be on the Autism spectrum though a recent screening didn’t pick up on it, I was instead told that I am just “very intelligent”, whilst at the same time telling me that my scores on the IQ test they ran on me do not fit their statistical model enough to get a meaningful result.

I enjoy a lot of streaming content, I’ve become obsessed with Jet Lag and the Layover podcast over on Nebula, and I’ve been recently catching up on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on SkyShowtime

Hi! Good luck with your ASD screening, I hope you get some progress with it.

When you say you prefer Lemmy over Discord… is it Discord in particular you have issues with? Or chat programmes in general? I generally have no problems with chat systems, but I find Discord overwhelming too.
