The alternative is PRIMARY HIM. That ass doesn’t deserve our vote and his hubris that he will get it no matter what is driving this country into a game of chicken with madness. He must retire and the only way he will listen is if we credibly refuse to support him NOW

True fact, in the early days of Linux I installed it and was like awesome! I am staring at a terminal prompt with color ls output and thinking man this is so cool! That irrational love of computers lead to a career but also a lot of inability to socialize.

Speak up, call your government reps. Your apathy is what they are counting on to avoid change

I looked it up since you seem moderately interested in discussing facts. The iPhone 15 has, according to ifixit, these locked parts: biometrics, display, battery, rear camera, selfie camera, wireless charging assembly, and rear lidar assembly. So no not everything, just a few high value (attractive to thieves) parts.

Just this week in the news many planes were grounded because of the discovery of fake parts.

When you take your phone to a third party repair shop, what guarantee do you have that they actually use real parts?

It should be up to you you say? Before this pairing stuff started my friend’s partner brought her iPhone into an Apple Store for repair and was informed that the entire phone was fake. Purchased for full retail price from a vendor that was selling fake entire phones.

That kind of quality dilution is risky. People on amazon constantly leave negative reviews for products they bought ON AMAZON that were fulfilled by counterfeit inventory. This problem is not hypothetical

Wow. The anger in there is so intense. The fact is that phone theft is a huge headache around the world. It doesn’t matter that your phone is biometrically locked. The instant thieves snatch it they disassemble and then sell the parts on the gray market.

The only way to fight this is tagging all the internal parts with some way to know that they are in the phone they should be in.

Building a viable service market that allows anyone to slap in a new part is hard to accomplish and harder still if you want to deter theft.

Or sure, just assume everyone is evil.

People talking about Fuji but not whether they hiked at night or day. Hiked 10pm roughly to try and summit just before dawn. So amazingly epic. By about 90 percent up just tons of shooting stars and the Milky Way so vivid. Clear night in early autumn near the end of the season.

A monthly fee seems idiotic but yes please do it! Please!

That said I think a $5 signup fee on Mastodon or Lemmy that is not refunded if you get banned would seriously help stop bots. They only make pennies per bot and if you make their cost even minimally painful the economics fall apart.
