That is an awesome corner, could see myself killing time there. Can we get a full glory shot of the BYO LP?

It is mainly the lighting, here's the inventory shot from the shop. There is a slight difference though, wasn't the most expensive piece as I knew there'd be a chance I could ruin it πŸ˜…

My other favorite is the one that I built this year, which I'd been wanting to do for ages and will continue doing as a hobby and maybe eventual retirement activity. It has a ton of mistakes but feels special knowing how it all went together.

My favorite subreddit was r/Luthier, I just started up an equivalent community here, although given current user base I'm guessing all discussion will happen here on guitars until we're able to support more niche users like that.

I have to cheat and say I have two favorites!

In normal terms, I would say my 1965 Airline, because it feels like owning a bit of history to me (it's my only vintage). It might be a bit cliche because of The White Stripes, but Jack White was the first guitar player that really influenced me and gave me the bug, so it means something special to me even if it's a popular/celebritized model.

(Sorry I can't figure out why Lemmy is rotating it, it's not rotated on my phone)

That's awesome, such a practical hobby. I tried to get into it with an UP MINI years ago but had too many competing hobbies already (read: not retired) so didn't really catch for me. I'm sure it'll come back at another time though

Thanks for posting it!

I gotta admit I got pretty hyped when she jumped in the ship and it actually took off, and was not just some way to hide a fast travel cut scene.

I'm also digging the vibes of that small town, looks like it could be good open world stuff. Very cautiously optimistic

How deep are you into 3d printers? Do you have a couple you are learning about or do you have a room full of them? People seem to gravitate to the extremes 🀣

Also in this day in age, triple check that your GPU will fit in your case!

Awesome, same boat - took RIF off my phone home screen and took an evening to try to figure out what's going on over here.

A bigger community will always recommend to start with a kit first so that's definitely not a bad route, but there are more ways to shake that tree. The biggest part is to get some practice with the tools and techniques before you cut/stain/etc your best wood, but you can always do that with scrap wood as you go, doesn't have to be a kit.

A pre made neck is an great compromise, it has the most fidgety and slow bits to make.

Good luck! I hope you get the time to try it out, very rewarding and worth the time.

Thanks for leaving a comment! I'm concerned this might be too niche for the user base yet, so any activity helps!

Holy cow I didn't expect someone to find my new community so fast lol. I'm just learning Lemmy, so I'm curious - did you search for luthier or did it show up on a all-communities type page?

A from-scratch build is a big (and can easily be expensive) project. But it is very manageable in small steps. To get something 'playable' at the end for a first guitar, really only a few critical parts have to be correct - for example, the nut to bridge distance, the fret spacing, and the neck angle and bridge height (and thus string height), mainly. The color/finish can be a disaster, the shape of the body pieces can be all wrong, you can have a huge dent/chip - basically you can (and you will) mess up a ton of things, but you can always keep going. It's harder than you would think to mess up to the point of having to stop. IMO motivation to see it all the way through over what can be weeks/months is the hardest thing, and understanding the previous point makes it much less daunting.

I'd love to answer more specific questions or give different kinds of tips if you'd like - thanks for commenting!
