I am running a tp link talon on openwrt 23. It runs great.I highly recommend it.It also has some additional ad blocker plugins and some other fantastic features. The only reason to not run openwrt. It's because you need the absolute latest hardware. I would also not run in an enterprise environment where security is absolutely Paramount, and you need observability. As well as centralized management.

@Tregetour @possiblylinux127 so that's the nice thing about open wrt is they have an x86 distro. So you can run on any old computer and get to know it and learn to love it as much as everybody else does.

I think once you've done it a few times it's not too scary. Then you can really enjoy the process it's like opening the same present over and over but it just keeps getting better.

If you guys like this stuff you should look open networking Hardware. There's a thing called white box Hardware if you want to go truly open networking. I added a list of Open Source and white box Hardware switch operating systems.
