Thankfully for things other than books (and maybe also for books), a lot of companies offer two day shipping now. Sometimes there's an order minimum for that but I find that most of the time my purchase exceeds the order minimum anyway.

This is the weirdest fucking thing I've seen on the Internet in a long time.

God damn. My girl passed away a couple years ago. I honestly don't know if I could afford to continue to feed her if she was still alive - this was the exact dog food she got.

That only that only works sometimes, unfortunately. About half the time when I go directly to a community from an instance I'm not on, my only option is to sign up with an account, not to subscribe with my current account from my home instance.

That’s fair, they certainly aren't to everyone's taste., even among electronic music fans. I stumbled upon their music by accident in 2009 and I've been a huge fan ever since. I may not always listen to them but when I'm in the mood for their music nothing else hits the spot like it does.

As far as I know they actually don't use any eurorack at all - they moved over to purely (or mostly?) computer-based music back in the late 2000s or early 2010s, preferring to her write their own algorithms and instruments. Their Live set is a couple of laptops running incredibly complicated max/msp patches.

It really depends on which album. Generally speaking, the later in their career an album is, the weirder and more inaccessible it is, with a couple of exceptions (oversteps/move of ten, sign/plus). Also if you’re interested in them, do not overlook the EPS -some of their best material is on those (EP7 being an absolute standout).

If you want the electro ambient stuff you described, the albums up through Tri Repetae do just that. Songs I love: doctrine, further, clipper

If you want something a little more experimental but still with some structure, Chiastic Slide through Confield is good. Draft and Untilted take the alien LP5-style thing and crank it to 11. Songs I love: Rae, Dropp, Arch Carrier, 777.

Quaristice is unique in their catalog - it's a series of short experiments basically, probably the most varied album. People either absolutely adore it or completely despise it for the most part. It was my first Ae album, and while I'm not always in the mood for it it has a special place in my heart. The EP with extended and alternate versions is amazing too. Songs I love: plyphon, perlence, tankakern.

Oversteps and Move of Ten return to a gentler sound and more easily digestible soundscapes. They are my favorites by far - I much prefer melodic Autechre to absolutely wild abrasive abstract Autechre. My faves: ress, O= 0, M62, y7.

Exai as a good transition from the oversteps sound to the more modern wild stuff. A bit more abrasive than oversteps, but less crazy than the next era. Favorite: cloudline

Elseq and NTS Sessions are extremely challenging albums for most people. I personally really like Elseq, and really dislike most of NTS Sessions - a series of multiple two hour long albums is just too much for me and the songs are a bit too long for my taste. I love xflood though. Standout: c16 deep tread, foldfree casual

Plus/Sign return to something resembling a combination of the Exai soundscapes with more melody and a bit structure. I think Sign is the better album of the pair of personally, but I think I'm in the internet minority on that. Favorites:m4 Lema, F7, si00

The Reddit deprogramming goes deep, for sure. I still find myself deleting comments here after typing them out because there is a 50/50 chance of getting abuse or arguments from someone for basically anything you post on that site.

I got mine in mid April and my feelings on it are very mixed. It sounds really good, but it can be kind of a pain to use. Most of the menus make sense, but putting the mixer behind a shift function is baffling, and pretty much kills it for live use for me. I really hate the save structure as well.

I really only use a couple of the oscillator models, so a lot of its potential is wasted on me - I mostly use 3d, 4d, Juno and 101 models, I don't really care for the others. Like you said modulation options are really lacking, and even though I like some of the sounds I had a really hard time fitting them into something that sounds like me rather than like Roland.

I got it primarily for the 101 and Juno models, and those turned out to be either just an overlay for the interface rather than actual emulations, or a really mediocre emulation. I picked up the S-1, which is amazing, and now I am thinking about selling the 4d. I just don't know if I can justify the space it takes and I think I would rather put that money somewhere else.

I just kind of kept trying, sometimes it works and sometimes not. Copy pasting the hyperlink rather than the !link thing seemed to work.

My setup has been in a state of flux lately - the stuff in the second list is kind of on the chopping block at the moment. I just got a Push 3, so if I like it the MPC One will almost certainly be going. Feel free to ask about anything, I love talking about it all!

Things I use constantly:

  • Peak (my first synth, still one of my faves)
  • Take5 (my absolute favorite)
  • Digitakt
  • MPC One (mostly for sequencing the non-Elektrons)
  • Roland S-1
  • Op6

Things I use less often:

  • Microfreak
  • Typhon
  • Roland SH-4d
  • Syntakt (DT tends to be more useful in more contexts)
  • Korg ER-1

A handful of FX pedals:

  • EQD Hizumitas, Boss CE-2w, Digitech Obscura and Polara (all of those usually on the Freak)
  • Champion Leccy Skitter (tremolo/reverb)
  • Poly Beebo (anything)
  • DBA Rooms (reverb)
  • Kinotone Ribbons (tape emulation/ modulation)

It all gets recorded into Ableton, where I finish the song. I actually don't use the FX pedals in finished productions too much, aside from the Microfreak chain - I like having more control in the arrangement phase.

It's beautiful. Hydra + Pulsar + Octa or DT seems like a wild combo.

Right on! What are your favorite features, compared to other grooveboxes? Mine arrived early this week, I had a chance to boot it up for a few mins yesterday. Fingers crossed the updates/ sign in go smoothly.

I was trying to search for [email protected] so I could subscribe with this account. However, I couldn't find any of the midwest.social communities aside from the synthesizers one. Is that by design, a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

My process: open Communities. Search [email protected]. I leave the Community and Creator fields set to All. Search again as I've seen some people instruct to do. Nothing populates.
