I have a buddy who accidentally tried to fly with a gun in his bag out of DFW.
He has his concealed carry permit, and this was in Texas, so he had to pay a fairly substantial fine, but that was it (yes, he’s a white guy). Still made his flight in time.
Same friend had TSA pre check and Clear. TSA precheck, to their credit, stripped him of the privilege. Clear is still fine with this, though.

Tools for what job, again?
The problem with the “guns are tools” categorization is that the only job they’re for is killing ~~people~~, or threatening to do so. Unless you’re talking shooting at the range, in which case that’s really more of a toy than a tool.
The reasons those protests don’t happen for tools is because they generally serve some other primary function which is useful, and that they’re not nearly as likely to be used accidentally.

That said, when going with “what’s popular” happens to align with what’s right, that’s gotta be worth something.
I’m a 90s kid, so I grew up calling my friends all sorts of homophonic slurs. I’ve told some racist jokes in my day, thinking I was edgy.
None of this affected public policy, but I’ll say for sure my views have changed a lot over the last few decades.
