Most folks don’t need an excuse to hate the internet enabled lie generator that “AI” is.

Introduce yourself (self.selfpublishing)

As folks migrate from Reddit, take a second to introduce yourself. This is probably the only post (plus comments) that will be self-Promo approved.

I’m John. I write mostly SciFi but have an Action/Adventure thriller series under the name J. Beckett.

My first series is the Space Rogues series. There are ten books in that series. I spun it off into the Rogue Enterprises series, which ha 2 books so far.

The Grand Human Empire series has 4 books, with the 5th in editing.

I’m writing the 3rd Expedition, Inc. Book right now.

YOu can learn more about me and the books at my website.

Yikes, zoom?

I only caucus’ed once to see what it was like. It was rough with the “olds” in person. I can’t imagine zoom.

So long as it’s still a thing, I’m happy, but voted for it the way it was.

Rules & Welcome (self.selfpublishing)

Welcome! Figured I should do my part in making Lemmy the refuge from Reddit that I want. This community is for anyone active or looking to self/indie publish their novel.

These will adapt and change as we go.

  1. No self-promotion. We all write books. This isn't the place to shout about it.
  2. No AI. Plenty of places to talk about it. This isn't one of them.
  3. No Spam
  4. Be helpful. We're all at different stages in this journey/career. Keep that in mind when replying to questions.

100%. In a writing sub I threw out. "I wish they'd just charge us, users a fee."

I got "Pay for this?!"

Folks live and die on Reddit but the idea of paying is... gross. Yet they scream about moves like this.

People, man.... I dunno.

This whole saga has been... what a mess. Sucks for those impacted. There's no real way to make it up to them, which adds to the harm.
