I always use the email analogy - you and a friend can be signed up with different providers but still communicate with each other. It's helped me explain the concept to a few people.

Same here. Had to make a point of deleting Boost and putting (for now at least) Connect For Lemmy in its place in my app folder. I'm done with Reddit - onwards and upwards with the fediverse!
