Hi, yes, this is a very good server, no bias whatsoever 😊

We do Originals, Plus, and First content. Podcasts can be requested but I'll have to do those manually. Sometime soon we'll also be doing Curiosity Stream, HD nebula videos (non-exclusive content but higher bitrate than on youtube), and classes (whenever yt-dlp adds support for it.) Plus a bot to automatically do requests :)

I also have a release group there called iDoISO, where we do full ISO rips of 4K and BluRay discs and "lossless" MKVs (basically no encoding whatsoever.) We don't have a lot of releases for them right now (it's pretty pricey even for a few 4Ks) but I've put a lot of time and attention to each release, so please take a look :)

If you have any questions or feedback don't hesitate to reach out to me! (Either here, on Divolt, or over DMs!)

EDIT: oh also we have a discord server if you don't like Divolt, just know that all the links are under b64 and idoiso isn't on it.

Closest thing would be the Usenet, which is paid. (Decently cheap, but still.)

Seedboxes and DMCA ignore VPS's exist, which is how a lot of DDLs and streaming sites live. You can also encrypt it before uploading (although you'll have to decrypt it afterwards.) For archiving, Telegram has 2GB file limits but is free and unlimited total storage.

I wonder why something like that hasn't become a thing and gotten big.

Not only is tor not used by the majority of pirates, it also limits speeds by a lot. Not to mention you can't index onion links in search engines. But I mean, you wouldn't need a VPN with it, so...

Well the only possibility is that it's a DNS or VPN issue, cause like Kai said, we haven't had any downtime, let alone one that lasts hours at a time.

If you have dev experience you can get in touch with us over on Divolt :) Otherwise the best way to improve FMHY is to help with the wiki. We have a #to-do channel on our server which is a great starting point.

As for project ideas specifically for FMHY, I don't have any rn. We have a billion backups and projects like Divolt and Lemmy are additive (and really made for the whole community rather than just FMHY.) But maybe some of the other folks here have some ideas.

Basically. If you go to a certain website, that's one instance, and if you go to another website (that's also on Lemmy), that's a different one.

Are you sure you're talking about this one (And you're on this site?) Double checked it isn't your own internet? By "down" do you mean some posts don't work, all posts, or you can't access the site at all? Also, are you far from where the server is hosted from, which is Europe?

AFAIK this server has had 100% uptime (but I'm not the hoster so I can't say for certain. We definitely never encountered any major downtime or crash.) There are hourly restarts to fix the image service, maybe that's what you're referring to? Those only last a few moments and other instances, like lemmy.world, do it too. (In fact they do it at every 30 minutes, which we've considered doing too)

It's a bet. I'm sure they'll do it at some point.

inb4 they back out of that statement and delete it

Welp, there goes all of my childhood videos and memories from over a decade or so ago. Google, how do you expect people to remember passwords from 15 years ago?

It's a good thing that yt-dlp supports full channel downloads. But this is horrible for old content, probably even worse than the time they privated old unlisted videos. What if someone is dead? What about people in comas?

What's supposed to happen is that if you're the first person to look at a certain community, it'll start fetch all of the previous posts and start indexing everything. However, since kbin is separate from lemmy and the two are only communicating via global fediverse tech, it only indexes new posts. That's just my understanding though.

What is Revolt?

Revolt is an open source alternative to Discord that allows for self-hosting (like for Divolt!)

What is Divolt?

Divolt is a self-hosted Revolt instance ran by pirates, for pirates. Just like Discord it consists of multiple communities you can be a part of, including FMHY. The chat is also bridged to our private Discord, meaning both communities can communicate with one another easily.

How do I join?

  1. Register an account on Divolt
  2. Login, then join servers!

What servers are there?

  • FMHY - Free Media, Heck Yeah!
  • M4D - Movies4Discord Backup.
  • SlavArt - ART. High quality tunes.
  • CrackHub - Software cracking.
  • Gamesdrive - Gamin'.
  • NBG - No Bucks Given.
  • Project Black Pearl - Server for PBP, a FOSS project that aims to unify game sources in one place.
  • iDoISO + Nebula's Essence - ISO and Nebula releases.
  • NQRARBG - A clone and successor to RARBG (currently under development.)
  • One hidden server, if you're worthy, you'll find it. ;)

Desktop / Mobile apps?

Notes

  • Divolt is a self-hosted version of Revolt, meaning you need to make an account on Divolt, even if you already have one on Revolt.
  • During signup you can use a fake email, but it will only load with real domains like .gmail.
  • If you’d like to join the FMHY Discord you must be active in our community, or a developer / contributor to one of the projects we have posted in the wiki.
  • If the page won’t load, try clearing your cache, a different browser, disabling ublock or using incognito.

Any more stuff?

Check out Awesome Divolt for clients, servers, themes, and more!
