You can hope, but try and convince the guy in my discord who never fails to bring up Ukrainian war crimes and is outraged that more cluster munitions should be supplied to them.

But he's totally not a Russian sympathiser, bro. Sorry, need to vent somewhere about his stupid takes. They're flat out impossible to discuss anything with if you have a different perspective or opinion.

I wasn't asking for people to get dressed up in full kit and feel 'pain' of a hard threshold level session, in fact that's not how the majority of people cycle.

If that's the only type of cyclists you see then it's likely because the infrastructure around you is so bad for cycling that only those that do ride are the serious hobbiests doing it for fitness.

Bikes and their dirivatives is the most accessible form of individual transport out there. They mobilise everyone from young kits to pensioners and everyone in between.

Thanks for the explanation and the time taken to write it.

I'm starting to figure it out as I stumble my way around it. For example I've found that Lemmy.World (my 'home' instance) isn't big on NSFW stuff, so I've made an account on another instance and linked the two.

Thanks again!

Just shitty parking/waiting in general really gets my goat. And I don't mean car park (parking lot) specific parking. But generally out on the roads.

Double yellows and other restrictions are there for a reason, what makes them think they don't apply to them? Parking on the pavement, like there isn't already enough infrastructure built and dedicated purely to their vehicles that they have to block that of pedestrians too?

Person is clearly a teenager or young adult straight out of school with zero work or life experience.

Thinks that they're special because they can pack 20 boxes an hour when their target is 15.

Won't be long until they realise their company doesn't give a shit and fires them for being 2mins late twice in a year.

I strongly believe that anyone who scoff at the idea that cyclists should be held to the same rules and standards as cars or who moan about cycle infrastructure should be forced to experience close passes themselves. See how quickly their tone changes.

Except when there's a blackout request such as this.

There may be the odd media that makes it out, but the vast majority abide by the rules because they understand the importance of OPSEC.

This is a new request regarding an immenant operation, not a reminder.

[–] fluke 7 points 2 years ago

It's not so much a reminders but a notification that theyre planning to start something big. Likely the main part of the counter offensive, which up until this point has been staging.

I'm a little confused by the news of US supplying cluster munitions to UA.

I admittedly haven't yet had much of a chance to look too deeply into it, but I'm sure one spokes person specifically mentioned that the previous concerns about dud rates aren't a worry anymore as they're able to reduce it down to 2%.

But the US has recently passed the bill to ban their usage by their own forces unless they were less than 1%. Which has effectively banned the use of them because arms companies admitted that they would be unable to guarantee that with current technologies.

In the meantime the US are destroying their stockpiles as they're anywhere from 5 - 15%.

So where are they getting these 2% dud rate munitions from?

I know there has been talks of supplying some of the current stockpile that has been flagged for destruction for use to drop from drones. Basically taking the individual clusters and putting them into a little aero bomblet sleeve thing.

I have mixed feeling about the usage of them, purely due to the dud rates, but honestly as far as Ukraine are concerned, they're in a total war for survival and they should be able to use any tool available to them (excluding NBC). And I trust them to be used only in the appropriate places, and that areas will be sufficiently cleared prior to civilian access.

But the Counter Offensive hasn't started in real anger yet.

Ukraine forces are still conducting counter battery and creating toeholds in the defence lines where they can use as a spring board for the actual breakthrough.

They're trying to get the Russians to commit their reserves across many parts of the front, I image. Then when they do start their offensive in force they'll be able to get some immediate momentum.

Lead's affects were well known, just ignored.

Aspartame is no different to any other food or substance we're exposed to. You can't buy anything in California that's doesn't have the 'Known to cause cancer' label on it.

Honestly, the rise in the diagnosis of cancer in industrial humans is a result of living longer and not being killed by something else.

Basically, what I'm saying is that as long as you live in moderation and overall healthy, a couple of pints of Diet Cola a day or a bottle of wine on a weekend isn't going to kill you.

From annectdotal experience, the people who get the most knotted up about this stuff probably sit down all day and eat absolute crap. The aspartame is not the thing to worry about in that equation.

[–] fluke 14 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Aspartame has been in common usage as a sugar alternative for literally decades.

If it was harmful or potent enough to be dangerous on a public or individual health risk then we would have certainly known about it by now. At this stage, even WHO, are saying it's needed in HUGE concentrations.

Diet sodas aren't the only things that we consume that contains aspartame. And aspartame isn't the only thing we're exposed to that has been linked to cancer and other deseases.

Just get on with life, enjoy what you enjoy in moderation. Don't put too much thought into it otherwise you'll just end up living in fear and avoiding everything.
