if you use Android, check Thunder app (not on play store). Download it directly from Github.

Listing providers that don't offer port forwarding, or just asking the question "whether they don't block ports" is bad. IMO a pirate needs port forwarding.

I got one VPN provider and had to dump it because I figured out they didn't offer portforwarding. After I moved to one VPN provider with port forwarding my speeds went 20x faster and I was able to seed torrents.

Why is Torrent freak even reviewing VPNs that don't have port forwarding?

Without port forwarding you are gonna have shittier torrent experience.

IMO you can safely access your server by setting up a VPN like Wireguard on that server. For reaching out the VPN you set there you have a few options:

  • Open a port for the VPN
    • plus: you don't have to worry about transfer limits
    • minus: you have a port open
    • if your IP is dynamic you need to setup something like ddns, or buy a domain and have some service that can update your IP if it's dynamic
    • static IP. no problem just use your IP
  • Use a service like a Cloudflare tunnel. I haven't used it, but I'm looking forward.
    • plus: you don't expose your IP
    • minus: they may have transfer limits in case you need to copy files out of the server, this may cost you money.

I think you can ask in the /c/Selfhosted community for more specifics.

Edit: For your power consumption problems, you can always use something like a RaspberryPi, or any other low-consumption computer.

I see your good intention of promoting this other Community (and the pun), but it's not slightly OT, it's just plain OT.
