Sounds great, but someone would sue again. A loan servicer if not a republican

Go to a therapist if you're struggling with your mental health

Easy to say. Difficult to do. Even among Americans who have health insurance, access to mental healthcare is abysmal.

Real question here. I don't know how the number of attempts is calculated. If a single person attempts unsuccessfully 3 times, then is that recorded as 3 separate attempts? Or is this recording the number of unique people who have attempted suicide any number of times?

If it's the former then it may be an indicator that women prefer methods of suicide that are less likely to succeed, but it is much harder to tell how many individual women actually attempt suicide compared to men.

Also, if a person is suffering enough that they're seriously contemplating suicide, is taking that option away from them really the right thing to do? There's also the issue of any such system being abused. It's easy to imagine law enforcement using this as a way to disarm groups and individuals for political reasons.

In this case that's fair, but in some cases, particularly attempted murders, EMS may have to wait for police to ensure the scene is safe for them to work in anyway. Not to mention most police have at least some first aid training. Police response times are also very important.

Yeah federated platforms like lemmy are a potential solution. I would guess they aren't more popular because nobody directly profits from the success of these platforms, and since no one entity has control of it people in positions of power may be wary of adopting it.

Also a distributed platform is pretty much always going to be more complicated. This scares off the casual users that make up the majority of social media usernames.

Look at Linux; you can be more open, better on paper, cheaper, and even easier to use in some cases, but the success of online platforms is not a meritocracy. It's a pageant.

And the joke is that Lemmy users are much further left than that.

Aside from the typical misogyny this movie in particular makes some pointed criticisms of masculinity. They either don't see that reactions like this makes their masculinity look very insecure, or they are aware that hatred sells to their audience better than fair level-headed reactions.

Most do, in my experience. These guys are more like right wing influencers with a Christian theme than actual clergy, as far as I can tell.

The suspect was also killed by police shortly after...

Can't say I feel bad for him, but I'm guessing his death is cold comfort to the family & friends of the victim.

Well he could try to run I suppose. It would be pretty weird to have a presidential candidate running while in hiding in another country.

Recently I've been listening to Well There's You're Problem; it's 30% retrospective on engineering disasters 70% shitpost

The fingerprint sensor gave out a year ago, so it will continue its slow decay in my bedside table drawer.
