Sisko : [on the image of his dead wife] I don't know if you can understand. I see her like this, every time I close my eyes. In the darkness, in the blink of an eye, I see her... like this.
Prophet : None of your past experiences helped prepare you for this consequence.
Sisko : And I have never figured out how to live without her.
Prophet : So, you choose to exist here.
[Sisko nods]
Prophet : It is not linear.
Sisko : [sobs] No. It's not linear.

They should officially add a fourth "E" to that model - Enshittification.
Slashdot had this covered years ago, literally decades.

It's a pity that Reddit and other sites didn't follow this model.
For sure, I am pleasantly surprised at how relatively bug free the experience was at launch.
On the other hand, for single folks like me it seems worthwhile. I game on a 4K projector that costs $3000, I also used to have a 49" ultrawide monitor which I sold off recently cause I was using my projector more, so at least for me, Apple's headset could replace a bunch of my costly gadgets - assuming it has video inputs of course (not sure if it does, haven't seen any mentions of it).
I used to play PoE and enjoyed it's early iterations, but the recent updates have been a mess. The game has just become an a almalgamation of too many things, and has become cluttered. I am looking forward to PoE2 though.
Ah, well you're missing out. DOS games are still pretty fun and awesome. Having a blast paying Dangerous Dave right now, and will play Prince of Persia once I clock this.
Mu mum uses it. The UI is simple and familiar, and she doesn't miss Windows.
As for me, I've been an Arch user for a long time but recently I've switched to Fedora (Nobara to be exact) and it's been great. I love how much optimized it is for gaming.
VirtualBox in the past for old DOS games
Why though? DOSBox is a far superior experience if you wanted to play DOS games. Better performance, better compatibility, better config options (like being able to adjust the CPU speed on the fly), plus controller support and custom config and launcher support so you can just one-click launch your favorite DOS game.
OG Diablo II is still thriving and kept alive thanks to some amazing mods, such as Project Diablo 2. Improved graphics, wide-screen support, and tons of QoL changes and additional content every few months keeps the game fresh and arguably, better than all other official iterations of Diablo out there.
I have a question regarding the sign-up process - given that Beehaw is federated with other instances and people can post here using other instance accounts, doesn't that make the whole stringent sign-up requirements entirely moot? Like, if someone is denied from signing up here, what's preventing them from posting here anyways from a different instance?
Sorry, but you're not forced to use it unless your life literally dependend on it. You could always quit if you really wanted to.
