Is there some way to make this thing default to the subscribed feed instead of a bunch of stuff I don’t care about?

That analogy would work better if you add the caveat that one day Yahoo could get bored and block interaction with hotmail and now you'll need two accounts to talk to people on each
Because fediverse is confusing as shit unfortunately
I think most of the elected officials care to some degree, they just aren’t good at correctly choosing reliable sources of determining what is actually in the best interest of the people.
