I would like to agree but considering gendered harassment is historically underreported it just becomes a bean counting measure to not actually provide remedy (of which I think this one should be temporary but the fact that it's being implemented is absolutely an indictment of both society and how little they think of men that they can't believe men cannot self police themselves or how disinterested they are to change norms that encourages this to happen, especially if this fits into their worldview that men and women must be segregated).

"fried chicken sandwich" outside America vs "chicken burger" seems to depend on whether you use a burger bun or not, at least that's my observation. The secondary observation is that for dietary reasons a lot of places don't primarily think of burgers as exclusively beef or pork so the swap/substitution is already well underway for what makes a burger patty/filling.

(ETA: so by the time our English settled on understanding a burger is a sandwich using burger buns, then just about anything in the middle can sub for a meat patty)

(Also, you have to go out more.)

SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Selangor Amirudin Shari menggalas lima portfolio utama negeri, termasuk pembangunan tanah & sumber alam; serta kewangan & tindakan ekonomi.

Beliau turut memegang portfolio pemodenan pentadbiran & pendigitalan kerajaan; komunikasi strategik; serta pendidikan & pembangunan modal insan.

This is very Melayu Singapore/KL imo and I wonder how many of these have broke containment into your everyday lingo?

got this in my Kini Morning Brief Email.

Summary: Perak MB says there are plans to trigger by-elections in at least four seats by convincing those ADUNs to defect to PN - no other details given.

[...] Saarani after a meeting with 33 Perak legislative assembly government members at the Impiana Hotel in Ipoh, Perak yesterday, according to Sinar Harian.

"We are gathered today because we don't want suspicion among the 33 assemblypersons and ensure their loyalty to the state government."

The Perak legislative assembly has 59 members, with 26 seats held by the opposition. They must win at least four more seats through by-elections to govern the state.

Like most states, Perak has enacted laws that will trigger a by-election if an incumbent lawmaker defects.

Got linked to this mainly because berdiskusi over how Singaporeans spell out Malay words and it's essentially because they're localized into teochew and then modern generation use it in romanized spelling instead of restoring the Malay spelling the way Malaysians would tend to do it. Still looking for an explanation for tombalek tho.

Since this the café comm after all 😂

IDK if I'd ever consider this as a routine purchase but looks like fun esp if you're having a get together and want to play masak2

The Home Ministry raided and conducted a seizure at the Toko Buku Rakyat bookstore owned by local author Benz Ali at Wisma Central, Kuala Lumpur, earlier today.

When contacted, Benz confirmed the incident and expressed his disappointment with the confiscation.

“You can’t do this. What’s more, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This is just like the previous BN government.

“It’s your government, yet you can’t even control the Home Ministry. I sell books that are not listed in the banned book list.

Episode description: Ethnonationalism, religious nationalism, neo-fascism and other forms of right-wing and ultra conservative populist movements are on the rise, in Malaysia and across the globe.

From the growing popularity of PAS and Perikatan Nasional in Malaysia, Narendra Modi and his Hindu Nationalist project in India, to strongman Donald Trump or the Evangelical Christians of the Republican Party in the US, and the anti-immigration Marine Le Pen in France, the list goes on and on. This has led to massive polarisation across ethnic and religious lines.

While each country and region has its own unique historical and sociopolitical contexts, one can’t help but wonder what are the parallels that can be drawn. Why are we polarised and could class struggle be a remedy? We speak to Assistant Professor Peter Beattie, Political Economist and Political Psychologist, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
