How do you get rid of fines?

You better believe that any metadata that can be syphoned by Meta is, that includes profile info, social graphs, who’s calling/messaging who, when, and for how long. AFAIK only message content is e2ee.

Be the change you wanna see in the world. Start by ditching WhatsApp yourself, or at least aggressively reducing your usage of it in favor of Signal. Let your friends and family know that you’re only reachable on Signal now and see what happens. You don’t have to ask them to switch; just to use Signal if they wanna contact you.

I think e2ee is always on in WhatsApp. You don’t need to turn on anything. You may be confusing it with Messenger or Telegram.

It’s most likely a bug

Signal went on the record saying that usernames would go live in the first half of 2023. Obviously that didn’t happen. Now we hear that they should be released this year.

What do you think? Are we actually gonna see usernames this year?

Music to my ears

Thanks. The issue I personally have with those tests is that they compare browsers using their default settings, which makes sense. It wouldn’t scalable to test every setting combination for every browser.

So I wonder how Safari would fare if it’s used exclusively in Private Mode with ad measurement and cross-site tracking disabled.

I didn’t know about Orion or Kagi search, thanks.

Do you know if Orion is open source? How does Kagi compare to DuckDuckGo search?

AFAIK browser extensions on iOS are only available for Safari.

Thanks for the tip. I haven’t checked privacy guides in a while. I’ll definitely give their recommendation a try.

Do you use Focus exclusively? Or you use another browser for bookmarks, logged in browsing, tabs, etc. ?

Count me out. Let me know when you revive the chat room on Matrix.

Given that all iOS browsers have to use Webkit for rendering, are there any privacy benefits in using say Firefox or Brave on iOS over stock Safari?
