maybe there could be different types of communites. Some where people contribute original stuff (main communities/most of the platform in numbers) where irregulatity doesnt matter

And some selected Rss-feed like communities with repost bots of top articles. To give you regular updates on certain topics and offer discussion for everyone in there ... I quite liked my local news sub for that (r/de): Rather than just algorithm based news apps that try to influence you the most with their headlines, I got to see what people thought of certain quoted parts in the article

.. but I see how the platform got destroyed by that too.. Idk

what art/digital art/oil painting pages to follow there?

I kinda tried and was not convinced for art sources :( instagram i.e. is like veeeeery unmatched here in terms of helpfullness.. so many unique and helpful artists there trying very hard

r/de has alot of daily "impactful" headlines/news/articles that I dont see on dach and am not too engaged in to post (am not confident enough into politics to create post/find articles)

and like international media posts like videos of current demonstrations in i.e. serbia is what Im personally missing after a couple days of using this platform (pretty intensly tho)

Yea its really hard to not compare here. But comparing while in the 'growing' stage of the platform is very wrong.

Ive noticed too and after some time I will maybe understand more in how to see and use lemmy. I just wish it was instantly as fullfilling as reddit was in terms of content

haha thats what I thought about too over the night today. Like maybe its better that art platforms are more on photo platforms.

I wish there was a strong competitor for instagram, platform was so destroyed and alienated. Ive seen flashes by bluesky devs is coming, but looks like the algorithm will decide how good it will be... and of course... lots of users on instagram which will be a while until the variety of content will be competitive with

lots of holes compared to the subs on reddit. I feel like important headlines are just missing and its more niche posts here. which is sad because I really like photon/lemmy so far!

Maybe these sites need a repost bot for at least like the top10 daily posts from the sub - I know its a very heated topic, just wanted to see how others would feel about different approaches

  • Is there a way to change the flavicon(icon in the tab preview as I understand) to another fediverse platform?

I currently have "mouse in flag colors" as an icon based on feddit org. But I would prefer for example the feddit IT logo - orange mouse, clean design)

Is that possible to change with like tampermonkey addon or something somehow in a rather easy way? I have an addon called "TwitterBird" for Mozilla replacing all X logos with the old blue twitter logo

  • Or is there even a better way to accomplish this without creating an additional account to swap to all the time?

You should know there's a font designed to make reading easier, especially for people with low vision. It's called Atkinson Hyperlegible Next. It's free for personal and commercial use. (www.brailleinstitute.org)

Note that there still have been no studies on its efficacy. At worst, it is a great font to avoid ambiguity between characters.

What would be your top 5 most important and impactful product/service to switch from US to European?

And bonus question: What is one product/service you think is not as imlactful as another product/service or as others think?

My top 5(and choice):

  • Search engine (Qwant)

  • AI chatbot (mistralAI)

  • Map app (mapyCZ)

  • Mobility: selling US cars (this one should have easy EU choices)

  • Food (may be very hard for some, but I think everyone should invest a lot of time into this topic)

Tech services neeeed(!) to be switched, since data is crucial in modern age. Oh also ofc don't use chrome based browsers.

Search: French Qwant.com is shockingly good, results, even in images is identical to Google/Bing. it has no AI integration which is fine, just use mistral. Only image search need a little refinement like a search for more identical of selected imagery. .

AI: chat.Mistral.ai is French and does the job to answer ie more specific but not too scientific questions.

Map: pleased with mapy.cz, ofc no street view but everything else, adding images of places is our job

.

Car: preferably even trying public transport+cycling or just cycling for groceries is a lot already or go for EU car if still needed for whatever degree

.

Food: this is a big topic, so I'll be general. I'd say don't be perfect. Go for the essentials you buy most. If you replace these, already rate that as a win. Because every brand is just a pseudo of a likely American corporation behind

Its so simple once you figured out which spice ingredients to pull out the cupboard.

  • Smash the chickpeas,
  • Put mayo in
  • Spices.
  • DONE!

And it tastes soooooo great! As somebody who doesnt like intense fishy tastes but still loving tuna from the days before going full plant, I find leaving out the nori doesnt change the tuna-like taste at all!

Tell me what you think/have already tried similar!

Are there more interface UI designs like p.feddit.org instead of feddit.org for the fediverse? (feddit.org)
 

There's a couple listed on fedditOrg's description, but now I wonder which interfaces you guys use and how to find all the options

Also are they limited to my account? As in I'd need to create a second lemmy account under another community like lemmy.world for other interface "skins"
