I traveled across Southeast Asia drawing powerline tangles and run-down alleyways in a sketchbook. It's definitely a thing.

This.

We have an absolutely wrecked educational system that nobody can think anymore. People have either working lives that occupy them 99% of the time and they can't make informed decisions, or are suffering from 10-second attention-spans and can't focus on any political messages past "I am the greatest, vote for me" and the fact that is the literal message that won an election, should terrify us all.

If we have a really big challenge, like a novel new virus or disease, in our current state with our current leaders, millions would di- oh, wait, what? I'm being told this already happened.

Well, if something else really bad happens then we'll have similar or worse causalities.

What does this have to do with ANYTHING. It shows brain damage. You should get your brain checked.

He just means technically we will probably survive. Maybe.

you just angered the entire AI/singularity community. Expect a sternly worded, AI-generated notice.

Watched that terrible dracula on a boat movie last night, every scene between two people was an exchange of a perfectly spoken diatribe or 5 minutes of expositional speeches. Back and forth. Forever.

I can't understand why they don't attempt to make movie dialogue sound like real people talking. It's as bad as laugh-tracks in terms of breaking immersion and making it feel like you're watching a bad stage play.

Are you SERIOUSLY so messed up in the head that you take this as a call for YOU PERSONALLY to be put in a camp? Are you really that dense? We don't want you then. Go right, join them, they will embrace your need to be a victim and will supply you with a thousand other ways to cry how unfair people's jokes and rhetoric are.

Harris supporters on Lemmy have called for me to be put in a concentration camp.

Yah, I'll take "Things that didn't happen" for a thousand, Alex. Let me guess, they did the "you're going to be the most _____ person in the camps" joke and you took offense to the harsh, practical truth of it, so rather than reconsider whatever performative BS you were trying to use to justify voting against a clear and present danger, you decided to do exactly what the right does, and spin natural consequences and hurt feelings to make yourself a victim.

edit: I was absolutely right, 100% accurate. Lets just ignore the clowns, shit's too serious out there to fuck around with this performative BS.

Kids? Try being a manager trying to hire for entry level data work.

I got maybe one out of five people who even knew how to do basic things like opening windows explorer and navigating through folders. And from that slim margin, finding someone who actually knows how to use software like excel or outlook or word, it makes me want to reword the listing to say that we need people with 5 five years experience. For entry level.

I have become that which we hate. I am demanding experience for entry level work, simply because the entry-level work pool has zero knowledge how things work. You have spent all your time browsing and none of your time challenging yourselves to install software yourself, to copy and move files, or tried even opening your "settings" panel to adjust things. When I started working a lifetime ago, I took some free lessons in learning how to navigate excel and other popular programs. Using that TINY bit of training, I went on to make formulas and automated several of the systems at my first job. I went from counting screws in the warehouse to an eventual VP position.

You can get much, much further ahead of the curve if you actually try to learn a little more about the things you use every day, and you will grow your opportunities more than you can imagine.
