Wouldn't it be trivial to run the image through a preprocessing function to remove the encoded bits?
Somehow it is inviting and not at the same time. Who the hell makes such a thing.

The last line of the article I can personally attest to. I am trying to install solar panels on my house and the interconnection approval has taken over 8 months and I expect the overall project will be well over a year. It was originally planned to be up and running in 6 months.
