True, they're a bit off the mark, but they were the ones off the top of my head. Also, in my defense, I don't think Pottinger knows what he's talking about either. The man glorifies Age3 like crazy, saying they had to scale back some features, fearing they'd prove too revolutionary. I love Age3, but the game was hardly world-shaking. Take its contemporary Rise of Legends, now that was a title that went balls out.

Still, I'm curious what they're cooking up in that new studio.

There's plenty of "evolved" RTSs in the indie scene:

  • Against the storm is trying a roguelike approach
  • Kingdoms and Castles is a banished-like survival with RTS elements
  • Endzone is also a sort of survival-crafter with some strategy mixed in, albeit with some issues.
  • Beyond All Reason is an open source RTS that's expanding the Total Anihilation formula.
  • Manor Lords is a fantastic medieval strategy
  • 8/9 bit armies are colourful, fast paced strategies.

The genre is far from dead, but the problem might be audience. When they demand "evolution" that means it should pander to recent trends like survival crafting and roguelikes and whatnot. Problem is some of these formulas don't usually pan out well for RTS games. Then there's multiplayer and, like other commenters mentioned, ranked multiplayer usually devolves into a bunch of strangers playing the same few maps over and over, but gamers still demand multiplayer.

Alas, I see the genre as not dead but in a "doomed if you do, doomed if you don't" spot. Meanwhile I'm sitting here waiting for a regular old historic RTS like Empire Earth or Rise of Nations.

The article doesn't really take into account local romanian realities and assumes malice where incompetence fits perfectly.

For example, one running theory is that the running coalition wanted to push an extremist candidate in the second turn of elections so that people will vote with their own "moderate" candidate, they underestimated his presence on tiktok and they've been running in panic mode making rushed decisions ever since the 24th of nov. This is further enforced by the fact that they've somehow had their online campaign hijacked in favour of georgescu.

You'd also be hard pressed to call the current ruling coalition anti-russian or pro-war. They're just cowards that try their utmost to not anger russia and only help ukraine when pressed by our nato allies.

Going further, the article describes georgescu as if being pro-russian is his only sin. But russian views notwithstanding, the man is a complete wacko that absolutely cannot be allowed to run a country. We also have a growing number of people voting for guys like him, for various reasons. Parliamentary elections have seen 30% of vote go to "far-right" parties ( and growing ) so we're on trend with the rest of europe.

Finally I don't think our political parties are being controlled by the EU in any way described in the article. The current president is the only one I'd accuse of pandering to EU/US interests, for the rest it's just a marriage of convenience.

It feels like the author is making loose connections bordering on conspiracy to support his theory that it's war support that is ruining the european economy ( as opposed to corporate greed ). I do agree with him that there seem be growing dictatorial tendencies in europe lately, and not just in the far-right parties either.

Putin trained the fucker well. First he poisons relationships with neighbors, then the EU. Full ongoing division tactics. Straight out of the brexit cookbook. The only thing that's missing now is for him to pompously declare independence from the EU or smth.

It's the same for Mass Effect. Every time I get ideas and want to fetch the games on Steam, I'm reminded why I didn't until now

I'm not really feeling the new Ciri either, but CDPR didn't follow the book lore all that well. They confirmed in a tweet that indeed she went through the trial, and speculation tells that she may gave done so with the help of a witcher from another school, broken off from the school of the cat ( see the new medalion ). From the agresiveness she shows in the trailer I'm guessing they're going for a more Falka-like Ciri, which is intriguing.

But I admit I'm a bit disappointed with their decision to insist on the well established characters for the "new trilogy" as they call it. It feels very boring and safe, and frankly I though that their arcs were complete and it was time for something new. We'll see I suppose

As for all time favorites, the Warcraft 3 trailer still lives in my head. Even remember the words.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was an attempt by Samsung to install an authoritarian regime through this guy, as their puppet. Megacorps do love their authoritarians and Samsung (and a few others) pretty much own the country

My thousands of hours of Elite can vouch that this is still THE best space sim out there. You can try NMS, X, Star Citizen, Everspace but there's nothing that can quite touch it.

If you do get it, remember a few things: it doesn't have a learning curve, it has a learning cliff. You'll learn a lot in the first hours. Also, join a community. There's reddit, or the various discords, or join a squad on inara.cz or even directly in-game. But the community surrounding this game is one of the nicest and most supportive i've ever seen. Oh, and if you're into salt and drama, there's the Frontier elite forums. Fly safe

You mean have the BBC miss a chance to again blame her and Germany for EU's current woes? Preposterous
