100% agree about being critical.

But I'm still gonna watch it and have high expectations AND be optimistic because of skarsgard and FKA twigs. Which if it's bad, will make the disappointment even worse.

Very good.

Lock this fucker up and throw away the key.

You gotta be kidding me.

And to the best of our current knowledge there's no getting past the speed of light.

An important point that I rarely hear discussed, "to the best of our current knowledge".

This is the key point, putting our current limitations due what we currently understand (and don't understand) about physics and science in general, and placing those limitations on a potentially more advanced intelligence, does not satisfy me at all.

If they exist, and are more advanced, then by definition of "more advanced" they will know more than we do, otherwise they wouldn't be more advanced. We can't know what that is until we discover it ourselves or they tell us.

200 years ago we got around on horses or walking. 100 years ago we still hadn't split the atom yet. We could still be like toddlers of scientific discovery.

In the end you could be right, the speed of light could be a final unbreakable limit. Could be wrong though and we won't know until we do.

If anyone came to our galaxy from outside why would they come here first if at all?

Eh, I've seen this question before and it doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously speculating, but the analogy would be we have biologists and zoologists and whatnot who travel around the world to study animal species, insect species, etc. Intelligence likes to explore, learn and discover. Kind of inherent to the whole "intelligence" definition.

If there's a more advanced alien/intelligence out there, why wouldn't they be interested in visiting or studying us? It's mostly obvious that life is rare in the universe, therefore it would be interesting whenever you find life on any planet. Not to mention a planet with more than just microbes. We've got a LOT of life here.

Additionally, one of the species is a "new" "Intelligent" species (depending on who you ask LOL). They've got nukes, they're heating up their planets habitat, maybe close to getting some form of AGI soon.

They might be interested the exact way we would be extremely interested. Who knows, maybe they already catalogued us in whatever their super advanced form of Wikipedia is...

Not the point. There will be some low income, low educated people to see the 6k as a reason to go for it just because of the money. Some low educated people do unfortunately think that way. Even so im still glad it will help people in need.

Regardless and more importantly, if we had socialized, single-payer medicaire for all, this 6k wouldn't even be necessary. I'd rather push for this than a one time cash payout. Since there will be hospital bills and insurance co-pays and whatnot for having a child, this 6k is almost an indirect subsidy directly to the insurance companies. And it's paid for by tax dollars.

And unfortunately single payer isn't even an issue discussed publicly any more.

I dont really support this for important reasons, but won't gripe about it much.

The problem I have with things like this is, people shouldn't be encouraged to have kids due to monetary rewards in any fashion. And there will undeniably be some bad apples who will have a kid because of the money, when they otherwise wouldn't. Bad reason to have a kid. I feel bad for the kids.

However, I'd support it regardless even if I disagree with it conceptually. Although there will undoubtedly be some abuse of the system, there will also undoubtedly be many honest parents out there in situations where the money will be extremely helpful. So good.

I dont know I'd still argue America is still very much winning at capitalism, because they're cheating, and always have. The low level consumer is irrelevant.

China has a super cheap EV that's better quality and price than anything else sold in the US? Institute massive tarrifs or just completely block them from being sold here.

The capitalists are staying rich and still getting richer. They're winning. Consumer isn't even given the option to buy the cheap China EV, or has to jump through hurdles and hoops to get the option, which very few will do.

Cops should be paid a lot, but the danger should be part of the job and risk. I'm thinking specifically of those Uvalde cowards who did nothing and let kids get killed. Their job should be the risk, to take the bullets, so as to save and help the innocent. That's the risk they should take, and get paid well specifically for that.

Many of our cops are overweight lazy traffic cops who give poor people speeding tickets who are late for their shitty job they can't afford to be late to. Or parking wrong, or whatever.

Teachers deserve a lot more too, way more for different reasons obviously. Unless they're forcing some religious nonsense poison into the minds of growing kids, fuck that.
