No it wasn't you. There were a couple of accounts that went in and spammed a whole bunch of bigoted posts.

They did not. It was just dumped on everyone earlier today

So I have an account on beehaw and pointed this out earlier to the admins. Got snapped at because how dare I try and say what they will do in the future. I was also told if they were going to defederate from everyone they already would have. Didn't really get a response as to what they would do once people start to trolling from other instances. They don't think it'll be a problem from what I gathered

Pee in the water fountain

That was an awesome video. I've seen other ones he's done too and I'm always impressed.

Same thing happens to me

"I too am a strongly leftwing-progressive person, but I don't like being in sooper-seekrit clubs for it; I'm more of a slug it out and yell at people kind of person - which is why I'm here rather than there."

I'm the exact same way. It's why I created a new account after they made that announcement

If lemmy.ml gets big enough I wouldn't be surprised if beehaw blocks them too. Alternatively what I see happening is that communities will be created here to replace the ones that were on beehaw. I see more people joining an instance that isn't so restrictive which will make the communities bigger than the ones on beehaw

Except not really. I created a new account on lemmy.world once I saw the notice they were defederating. I'm sure I won't be the only one to do that. I liked what they were trying to do over at beehaw but I don't like being cut off from 2 of the biggest instances.

I created a new account just now on lemmy.world about 10 minutes ago once I saw the announcement. I get what they are trying to do over there but I think defederating is a little much. I am upset about loosing out on some of the communities they have but others will take their places on other instances.

I actually just created a new account on lemmy.world because of what beehaw did.

They are wanting to create an instance of inclusion that doesn't risk people feeling like they will be attacked. They are blocking instances where they are noticing "hate" coming from. They are doing it so they don't have to mod posts coming in to make sure they fit with what they are trying to create.
