“The majority of the town council worked in the mill, and some of them had executive jobs, like supervisors. Any suggestion that there could be some problem with the mill itself, which was supporting them financially, was simply something that there was no economic incentive to even entertain.”

Some things never change. Also, the date of the photo is misleading because the metalworks had been belching out smog for over 30 years by 1948.

God I wish people would stop trying to gift me cookware because they heard I liked to cook. They never have any idea what I need or what I would use and I never have enough room for all the junk.

I just had to throw out a bunch of pots and pans because they weren't compatible with my new range. Good fucking riddance! They were without exception cheap pieces that should have been tossed years ago, especially the non-stick varieties. I don't miss any of them and I'm glad of the excuse to recycle them.

Been shopping for a few replacement pans that are induction ready and several of them do have copper or aluminum cores to spread heat more evenly and quickly. All of them are wrapped in a layer of steel. Copper and aluminum shouldn't really be coming into direct contact with many foods anyway.

How do you pronounce the U? Do you pronounce mould like should, would, or could? Is your pronunciation of mould then closer to mud than old with an M in front?

Expensive certifications that your employer will reimburse you for that potentially increase your earnings potential and value in the job market if you do change employers? Are those worth getting? Yes. Employer not paying you for them? Still, maybe yes. Do you really need to ask? Or are you looking for an excuse to not do the thing recommended by your mentors and that's not giving you instant gratification and a dopamine hit (like this place does)?

The intro theme to Cheers.

True, that sounds frustrating and I've been there. But, I grew up in an age where that was just a fact of life, and before rechargeables were very good. So when the last fresh battery goes in you buy a new box. It's like one or two battery changes a year for the mouse I use 8-10 hours a day 3-5 days a week. The mouse itself also gives plenty of warning. Not really on my radar of worries.

Neither have I because they all take replaceable AA sized batteries and last literally months between changes or charges (if you get rechargeable AAs). Seems a much more robust design from my POV

Just avoid making a mulch volcano around the base of the tree. That would be bad for the tree.

"Darmok" was the only other episode Robin Lefler appeared in The Next Generation.

Watching LLMs try to interpret context is like that episode of Futurama where Bender tries to be a chef.

You asked the question, it's only fair that you do the counting. Memory Alpha has a list of species to get you started.

Most of each of the series is dominated by humanoid species simply due to the economics of it or due to the progenitors in story. But, I seem to remember just as many, if not more non-humanoid species newly introduced in TNG in addition to the ones that first appeared in TOS.
