I modeled this based on publicly available 2D drawings of choc switch and MBK keycaps. Dygma is probably a good place to look. They're slightly "weirder" than your microsoft board, but still fairly close to a traditional layout. They're also a bit smaller, but configurability of the keymap completely compensates for that imho. But being actually split, with some extra thumb keys, is a good step up in ergonomics from the microsoft I think.

This was an issue for me only the first few weeks transitioning to an ortho layout. The bigger problem will start when you start experimenting with different layouts (non-qwerty). But as long as you keep the alphas in the same positions, you will adjust just fine within a few weeks.
