Would be very cool and good if IT folks weren't constantly in a dick-measuring contest and could see the forest for the trees. Maybe we're all getting underpaid, relative to the suits six floors up, and we'd do well to stand by each other instead of bickering over who works the hardest.

Managing the passwords in your password manager becomes a job in and of itself when you've got enough of them floating around. My office is on year two of trying to do automatic password rotation for the myriad of service accounts in our systems. Anything that's not Active Directory integrates is a headache. And even the ones that are have to constantly stay ahead of the Microsoft Updates curve or run into security problems of all sorts.
It would be cool if everything could be SSO, but you need to have a certain amount of faith in your OS to accomplish that.

I'm not sure if you're phrasing this backwards deliberately. But Dems in the House passed the For the People Act while Dems in the Senate (Manchin, most particularly) killed it. A compromise bill was crafted (by Manchin!), but Manchin and Sinema refused to exempt it from the filibuster in a rules vote.
This was in 2021, of course. Dems had an even better opportunity in 2009, when they were sitting on bigger majorities. But, again, they dawdled and delayed and let guys like Lieberman play footsie with the opposition.
Efforts to fix the disparity in the Senate by granting DC Statehood (and effectively guaranteeing Dems gain two additional Democrat seats) have also stalled in Congress indefinitely, going all the way back to the 1990s.
In the meantime, Republicans turn the ratchet rightward by further gerrymandering districts, stacking courts, and expanding the pool of ineligible voters through caging/voter registration purges/etc. They've been at this since the early 2000s, and every cycle gives us more lopsided state legislatures. Wisconsin's GOP can hold a supermajority with as little as 40% of the popular vote, for instance.

I'd actually point to the excepts from Columbus's own journals, catalogued in Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" to identify a number of native tribes he initially encountered who were practically childlike in their innocence.
The Caribbean island peoples were documented in sharp contrast to more imperial mainlanders as extraordinarily passive, initially quite friendly, and devoid of the more rigid hierarchies and institutions common in those more technologically advanced societies.
