A lot of it has to do with the type of folks who were in the initial Lemmy wave; generally a crowd that is more familiar with linux distros than the tuck rule. Not necessarily a bad thing, just a comment on the interests of the type of folks who were more apt to leave Reddit for another platform. Mainstream sports attract a mainstream audience, whom (on the whole) are more likely to stick to a mainstream website. Lemmy will grow but it took years before some of those communities grew to the size they are on Reddit, and it happened then without a comparable mainstream competitor.

Sharing bank accounts allowed my ex wife to drain it dry when she went on a crack bender. So, there's that perspective. I would/will never have a joint account again.

This will get appealed all the way up to SCOTUS who will handwave it through, unfortunately.

I understand your argument. But the entire premise is grounded in the assumption of courts upholding precedent and not letting an executive operate outside the confines of the law. The president has immunity. Congress is ineffectual at best and actively evil at worst. I mean for fucks sake, the current occupant of the White House lead an attempted coup and is still being permitted to sign, enact and decree legislation. If the checks and balances in our system were functioning, I'd be willing to get in line with you. But it's so painfully clear that they are not.

What about the last eight years has made you think these people will follow the rule of law?

I always find this imagery amusing. David is touted as this weak shepherd boy who is nearly defenseless in the face of this giant opponent. In reality, you've got someone who has trained to sling rocks with deadly accuracy. He's basically the bronze age equivalent of a sniper, bro can send a 2 inch projectile at mach jesus straight for your dome.

Inertia is a hell of a thing to try and overcome. It's a big deal for most companies to change out an important piece of software, let alone an entire OS and everything that comes with it. It could happen one day, I just don't expect to see it.
