Land of the Lost (2009)

So I'm actually a truck driver as well and I live right there, I got stuck in this and my initial thought was the same as yours. Turns out he actually went through a weigh station about a mile before this sign and his dump trailer was down. It's pretty baffling that this could happen at all while he was driving. It should have put his truck immediately into derate and dropped him to 5 mph when he activated the dump bed from in the cab. He was charged with reckless driving and he'll probably lose his CDL (as he should) but there will probably be a serious investigation into how this could have happened at all.

You'd think they'd just pass the cost of the better test on at an 8000% markup like they do with everything else.

I'm a truck driver and I deliver fuel to gas stations.

I really enjoy driving around all night listening to podcasts or audiobooks when nobody is on the road and when I do my deliveries sometimes I get to witness 3am gas station drama.

The worst parts for me are the long shifts and sometimes having to stand out in the rain.

I really like my job and it pays well.

I went from plumbing and hvac sales to truck driving. It's great, I don't have to deal with customers, I make more money, and I just listen to audiobooks all day.

Looks like they were used to hold bullets and premeasured powder. But they kind of just became a style.

I do think most companies do a good job and safety is their priority and most drivers have the right mindset. I feel that paying drivers by the mile instead of percentage of the load or hourly is the biggest factor in why drivers try to rush and get frustrated though so if that was an industry wide change I think it would help. Overall I think that unsafe drivers are a very small portion of the workforce but the average person would only notice those few, a polite, safe, driver is mostly unnoticed because they're just doing what you expect.
