It's not as bad if you use separate chairs.
PRC has fewer people, regardless of it's political structure.
We have the technology, but not the social skills. Most of America doesn't know their next door neighbors, let alone their community. We have a lot of steps to go before direct democracy is the best solution.
That's a simple statement of current US policy. The US supports the status quo of limited independence of Taiwan under the government of China.
Mainly it's an attempt to not have to fight with China about technologies that are manufactured in Taiwan, while still keeping global access to that tech. As the US and other countries invest heavily in chip manufacturing though, it will become less and less important that Taiwan stay independent.
Personally I think the only problem with nuclear is that it has to be near a large natural water source that stays very stable. Due to already ongoing climate change, there's not a lot of safe large bodies of water. Either you're so far above sea level you risk running dry, or your so close that you're at risk of flooding. There are still some places it's a good idea, but they're few and far between.
