Ah, plenty of people have been taking things literally on Lemmy, there's been many people not understanding the irony and getting pissed off at jokes.

But yeah, it's meant to be ironic, based on the dumb shit Americans say and post to Facebook. If you see it on Facebook, are you American?

If you truly think that, you really don't understand the post. There zero chance you are from Europe if you don't understand this post, as it includes certain things that piss people from Italy off that are obvious to Italians (and most Europeans are aware of).

Unless you're autistic and are just taking the satire literally

What about the bit in the middle?

Honestly we should unite and perform a coordinated attack on fox news, the same way that anonymous took over russian news stations, russian sites, and even hacked russian GPS.

This isn't just a case of freedom of speech, this is mobilising, terrorising and seditious speaking. The US government themselves know best just how powerful this propaganda is, as they've used it themselves against many governments. They're doing the exact same thing at fox news.

Look into the Jakarta method, a book written about how the US government destabilised and dissected government's that they viewed as hostile and communist.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jakarta_Method

We have known for a long time that fox news creates soviet style propaganda, but now, with Russia being hostile and China semi-hostile, surely they're trying to destabilise at best, start a civil war at worst. Why doesn't the USA do anything to stop this clear and obvious cooperation with the enemy?

Freedom of speech is not freedom to incide sedition. It doesn't protect people from convincing traitor's to pick up their weapons. Fox news should never have won that lawsuit where they claimed "no rational person would believe it" because that's irrelevant. A good portion of Americans (30%+) are irrational. So why discount them? It's like saying "only a criminal would shoot someone if we paid them to do it, therefore when we pay them to do it, it's not our fault". Well yeah, only a criminal would do it, but you still paid them!

Wait so the flairs won't be automatic or essential?

That sounds shit tbh. Majority would be [US] anyway with the current state of things.

I hope that they do make community flairs because these kind of communities will never flourish without them.

I got 2 people from the USA telling me my meme was offensive. Out of 5 comments. On Reddit, hundreds of people commented on the same meme, and none of them said it was offensive. Why? Because they weren't American, and didn't have an innate desire to be offended on behalf of someone else. These motherfuckers do a genealogy test and get 10% Irish and suddenly they're offended by a meme about Ireland when true Irish people just spread banter and find it funny.

This is the meme:

Most people here are American. It's kind of sad, I was hoping to switch to here from Reddit, but without my favourite sub it's pointless.

No flairs and the majority of people are Americans who don't understand our humour and get offended. Many don't get sarcasm or satire either. It's just a sad attempt at the sub.

Lmao you just downvoted my comment instead of admitting you were mistaken. Definitely a dumb, arrogant American.

The irony

You have no idea how far I got in university

I guess you're very young? Your comment is, honestly, ridiculously dumb. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're a young teen.

The use of the word "rates" indicates a ratio or percentage.

It's pretty obvious that I was talking about knife stats per 100,000 people.

Basically it means that the statistics are a proportion. It takes into account the population..

Essentially, in the USA, despite the population being ~5x more than the UK, knife homicide in the USA is ~40x more. This makes knife homicide around 8x more common per capita. Per capita means "on average per person".

Knife homicide, per 100000 people USA: 0.6

Knife homicide, per 100000 people UK: 0.08

Exactly! That's why there's no interesting fortresses in the USA.

That and they don't have medieval history.

[–] Ryany 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Surprisingly the UK has much lower rates of knife crime than the USA. You wouldn't expect it since the USA has guns, and people make out that the uk is bad.

It is funny.

Also that's the point of this sub you sausage.

Are you American?
