Alters are account wide. I would assume that it doesn't matter which character you click them on, it should flag the entire account.

Reserving this spot until someone tells me if we are all still riding the blizzard hate bandwagon or if we are fanboys again.
This is exactly my stance.. minus playing with your best friend. Mind throwing me an invite?
Without all of the demons and evil stuff the game would be pretty boring. Just riding your horse around a peaceful map.
Convenience fee, think of all the time you saved by not having to buy each thing individually!

Okay, patch notes say account wide.

Pretty sure this is correct. Alters a map discovery is account wide.
If you make a new character to be a part of the season, yes all side quest will be reset as you are playing a different character. Only campaign completion, alters and map explore will carry over to a new character.
Nothing happens to your current character though, nothing is deleted and nothing is reset. You can continue on that character forever, you just will not be a part of the season.
This got me too, in games I always spend a lot of unfocused time exploring and doing side quests. Had no idea the game state freezes at 50. When I figured it out I had to focus myself and finish the story to open up the game.
Yes, a sequel is in the works. The originals are amazing though and I highly recommend them, especially if you throw some mods at it. There are several recent YouTube reviews of it, check one out and see if it looks worth the time to learn!
