I am in favour of having a downvote button, but I also able to understand arguments against.
However, I do think the positives outweigh the negatives.

I do think we should bring it back, but I had to think about the why for a while.
Part of me just wants it back because I got used to it on reddit, but I do think it has some purpose, such as:
-it makes it feel like your vote counts more, as not doing anything with a bad/unfit post sometimes doesn't feel like enough
-seeing a post or comment downvoted to oblivion shows the opinion of the community better than it just having no upvotes, as that can also be seen as the thing not being seen
-not having the option to downvote could skew peoples judgement on some bad posts, as any post'll get upvotes regardless of how bad it is, and downvotes would balance that a lot better.
I don't know if this is sufficient reason to actually bring it back, but I at least wanted to share my two cents on this matter.
I'm quite enjoying the Fediverse at the moment, though I do think it will take some time to both adjust and for communities to get more active.
I do think I'll use this more than reddit now, but I'll see what happens.
Only thing I really miss on Reddthat is a downvote button
My first kit was the High Grade Gundam Age-1 Normal. Nothing special really, but fun to build. As for what I'd recommend: either a suit you like from the anime, or just one you like the design off.
and a Tip: the newer the kit, the better it (usually) is.
The first anime I ever watched was Pokemon, but I don't really count that, as I had never even heard of the word "anime" back then. My actual first was Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. It's still one of my favourites to this day.
Great that you're getting into gundam! As to when you can start with gunpla: whenever you want! I built my first kit before I even watched a single episode of anything
My favourite this season is Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch from Mercury, with Oshi no Ko and Konosuba as close second and third, respectively
Creative drive, I'd say. Some people simply like making stuff
