Using scissors to cut crumbly buns or croissants, or a pizza

You already got some great tips, but i wanted to caution you about the bite. If it left a wound, particularly a deep puncture wound, maybe visit the doctor. Cat bites are notorious and can be very dangerous.

Because swear words are, to me, an expression of anger or irritation. Swearing would therefore reinforce angry mindstates.

Yes, this was both very helpful for my mind, i'm happy and calm most of the time, and others appreciate it too and are happy to be around me.

It didn't stop me from expressing anything. It just makes me pause to think of a better, kinder way to express myself, without making other people angry. It helps communicating with other people in a more friendly, helpful way. When i would be angry, it would be hard to listen to other people.

Seems like they would first look if there is enough money and enough users to make it worthwhile, and then go looking for developers.

Don't get me wrong, i have been a paying client for many years and really love the products and the company, but everything they say about linux... I don't know, this just sounds like an excuse to continue to prioritize other things and get the linux users off their backs for a while longer.

First off, i live in Europe, so i honestly don't know too much about politics in other parts of the world, other than what i sometimes see in the news. I hope my innocent question doesn't trigger any nastiness.

My question is; in discussions i see only talk about democrats vs republicans, for instance discussions only about Biden and/or Trump. But my understanding is that there are other political parties one can vote for. However, i never see any mention of them. So, is it that most people are not interested in those? Or maybe they don't get enough media time? Or are they seen as too extreme? Are the US basically a two-party system? And does it change over time? There are a lot of worries in the world - i don't need to name all of them - but this seems to trigger more extreme views. Does this mean that those other parties attract more voters nowadays?

Covid brain (self.lemmy_stitch)
submitted 8 months ago by Papanca to c/[email protected]

So, a few weeks after my very first covid attack, i still have some fogginess. So, i discovered a few tiny mistakes in my little bookmark cross stitch. And i stopped working on it, because i had already fixed some other small mistakes and i was feeling disheartened. I contemplated whether i could stitch over them (but i'm a bit of a neat freak, so this tells you how i felt about it), or rip them out, or just ignore them and keep going. And for a week i was looking at that thing on my desk, waiting for me to make a decision. So, today i picked it up again and checked my pattern. I did not make a mistake. I colored them wrong on my chart...

(For anyone interested, it's the Vevaco PN 0184423 kit.)

Kagi, view my stats? (self.degoogle)
submitted 9 months ago by Papanca to c/[email protected]

I hope this question is allowed here (since it is one of the search engines that i now use instead of google). I'm trying out Kagi. For the trial, you get to have 100 free searches, i belief. Is there a way to see how many searches i used up? I can only find stats for Kagi, not for my personal stats. How do you all like Kagi? And if so, do you pay for it? I'm considering paying, but i would like to have some insight into how many searches i actually perform on average in a month time. I honestly have no idea. What i also do lately is ask a question to a LLM (i found Petal), so that i have a start on where to search for more precisely. Sometimes, i get incorrect answers, but often it helps me get more of a handle on what i should be looking for when using a search engine. For example, i switched to Linux and Petal helps me understand some things better, which i can then use to do a more precise search.

Hi all,

I have recently installed Debian 12, KDE Plasma on my desktop pc, coming from windows 10.

I haven't yet messed with any drivers, everything seemed to run just fine. Until i noticed that after 1 or more hours just browsing or watching a streaming video, my desktop pc starts to rattle as if it is suddenly hard at work, the mouse cursor becomes unresponsive, and a minute later it doesn't move at all and the only thing left is to shut down with the power button.

So, i'm pretty sure nothing is suddenly wrong with fans or CPU temperature or whatnot, but maybe a Nvidia driver should be installed? Can i just follow Debians advice here?

Do you need additional info?

I never go there anymore, but i made an exception to read Protons plans for the (near) future. I found it very interesting, so wanted to share here.

Update: i went to reddit because there was an AMA from proton . There, they said: *The only reason why our Linux clients are lagging from a development is simply that it is extremely difficult to hire Linux Desktop developers.

So for anyone reading this, if you are based anywhere in the European timezone and willing to take up on the challenge, apply here: https://boards.eu.greenhouse.io/proton/jobs/4140067101*

Still reading all the replies, very greatful for the tips and responses, thank you all!

Thought i would share this with you all:

I contacted Proton for a technical issue and decided to also ask about their plans for Drive for Linux. Their response:

Proton Drive on Linux: Regarding the availability of a Proton Drive client for Linux, this is a common feature request that many users have expressed interest in. Our team is aware of the growing demand for a Linux client. While we currently do not have an ETA for when a Linux client might be available, we have not ruled out the possibility of working on it in the future.

I'm very disappointed, since i'm probably going to switch to Linux over the weekend.

Update; Proton got back to me and apparently it was my local drive, not a cap on Proton.

== Hi all,

I'm preparing to move to Linux and am backing up a number of files on My Files (so, not the synced files). I have used about 90 GB on my proton account, but in total i have 550 GB available. While i was moving files, i suddenly got a popup that i only have 2 GB left on My Files. So, there is a cap on that? I have never read anything about this. Does anyone here know more?

I'm pretty disappointed, because now it will take a lot more work to decide which files i really need to keep. When i install linux, i will only have the web version of Proton Drive available, not the app. In other words, once i move to linux (not dual boot), i take it that all the sync files will be gone and i will only have My Files left. Or will it still keep the latest synced version of all the files on my Drive?

Anyone have experience with this?

EDIT: I am thrilled with so many awesome responses! I'm taking notes and looking into all the recommendations. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to help me out (and many others, i'm sure), i'm glad i asked!

Hi,

I'm getting ready to switch to Linux. I'm looking for a kind of checklist of what to do beforehand. When i search online, there is a lot of advice on which distribution to choose and how to set it up, which i already know, but my question is the step before. I made a list of which programs i currently use (almost all have a linux variant or i can use them in the browser) and i am making screenshots of their settings. I have basically everything important backupped, both on my ProtonDrive and on a private server in the house. Is there anything else i need to prepare before switching? I wouldn't want to overlook something.

(I already have the distribution and am trying it out, but my plan is to actually install debian and without dual boot. Also, many, many years ago i already used debian but then i had the luxury of someone who basically arranged everything for me)

Currently, i run windows 10 with Nvidia GeForce. I already am in the process of degoogling and de-microsofting so to speak, so i don't use google drive or onedrive, or MS Office anymore (nor a lot of other things).

Apologies if this is not appropriate for this community. Have a great day :-)

All from secondhand curtain and bedsheet. Sewing, serging and handstitching. It has a lining and an inside pocket.

It will be a gift for someone.

It's so cheerful! Don't look to closely, but it is sturdy enough

Hi all,

(I hope) I am ready to try making a bodice sloper, using the instructions from the closet historian However, the patterns she recommends are pretty much unavailable, only a couple of small sizes, for which i would have to pay an enormous amount of shipping costs, as i live in Europe.

Do you have or use a modern pattern that would be really suitable as a bodice sloper? I would be looking for something like size 14-20

She also has a video on how to make something from scratch, but she advices against it and i'm not yet a very experienced sewer, so i trust her judgement.

As an aside, am i paranoid in thinking these companies retracted these shell patterns, because they don't want to risk loosing their audience?

Proton Photos is coming! (self.protonprivacy)

I received a mail and also confirmed on this forum that the status is updated to Planned.

No idea when it will be ready, but i'm very happy with this.

I don't know if this is possible, or maybe there is some reason that the right sidebar only shows the info about lemmy world? I would much prefer to see info from the community i'm visiting, instead of needing to click on the three dots at the top. Speaking about the three dots; in a sidebar with community info, the info to subscribe, create a post or block could be listed there as well. I personally do not really care for those three dots. If that lemmy world bar has to be there for some reason; maybe it can then be shared with community info? That you see the community, but if you scroll down, you still see the lemmy world information?

Btw, don't get me wrong; i really like Photon and it is what i almost always use.
