Start with 15 pawns and a king.
Captures grant gold based on the captured piece's value.
Every 5 moves, both players have a shop that allow them to spend gold to buy piece upgrades, or pawn promotions
I only beat black stake with the black deck recently, on the beta build. I'm way too greedy for endless builds so I lose a lot of runs... but that one went up to ante 18 (best score was in the e32).
Worth it.
And you lose the 3 months if you cancel before renewal
Maybe a PvP balatro format where you have a chess deck (King, Queen, 2 bishops/rooks/knights, and 8 pawns of each suit) and a card capture mechanic is added somehow ? You win when you capture all of your opponent's Kings
