This is troubling. If other instances decide to defederate this one due to the actions of this community, it affects the reach of every other community on here.

If that happens I will be forced to move my communities elsewhere, and I'm sure other communities would do the same.

The problem at the moment is that the community moderation tools are pretty limited. At some point there will be coordinated attacks on some communities and the moderation tools are not yet sufficient to defend against that sort of thing.

It's not as easy as that.

The problem at the moment with lemmy is that the moderation options for communities are pretty basic. So a community moderator can only delete posts or comments, block individual users or block any posts apart form moderator posts. So if a community is the victim of a coordinated attack from another instance, there's not a lot that the mods can do to defend it.

There will be instances created just with the intention of disrupting communities that they disagree with. If community mods can't defend their communities, defederation may be the only option.

Also defederation is a two way street. An instance might decide to have a no censorship policy, but that might lead to it being defederated by other large instances.

My advice is to avoid trying to screw with reddit and just walk away. Don't put any effort into fighting, take your creativity and use it to build something better here.

We all can see that everything is new here and it still needs work, but you're here at the beginning and it will get better.

Will reddit continue? Yes.

Will reddit ever make a profit? No.

We'll see what happens. Hopefully people will be able to behave themselves and at least be respectful even if they disagree with each other.

At least it's the off-season now so it shouldn't get too heated for a while.

I don't think the problem is the jury voting system so much as the people selected to be on the juries. They seem to be a lot less open to different musical genres. It's as if the juries are 20 years behind the general public.

I only created this community because I couldn't find any other Eurovision ones. If there are others now I suggest joining all of them to see which one takes off best.

Is this something that mods also need to do for the communities?

I'm having issues uploading an avatar image. I keep getting the following message:

SyntaxError: Unexpected token 'R', "Request er"... is not valid JSON

I tried it on Chrome and Firefox and the same thing happened. I'm pretty sure it was working yesterday though.

Hi, I just created a yorkshire community if anyone is interested.

Not sure if there's a neater way to link to it in a post but it's here:

https://feddit.uk/c/yorkshire

Hi, I couldn't find a Yorkshire community so I created this one.

Rules are in the sidebar, but basically just have fun and be nice to each other.
