Yeah, that's why I thought it was a stretch! Sounds intriguing though
Very cool! What field does that end up putting you in? Like, is it civil engineering, computer science, audiology, something else?
(audiology's a stretch but I thought it sounded better with three examples 😅)
Most lodges go dark in the summer as far as I can tell, but it would probably be possible to visit a local lodge if you reached out to them. I don't live in Edinburgh so I'm not sure of who a good one to reach out might be, but you could get in touch with the Grand Lodge and see if they have suggestions
Generally speaking, I would just avoid downtown on days they're running graduations at the convention center. Is there likely to be crazy spillover across the whole area? Probably not, but traffic will be higher (including lost people trying to navigate roads they're unfamiliar with) and I think it's just easier to give it a wide berth
I've not seen The Good Place, but probably not. IEP is a peer-reviewed philosophical encyclopedia so it's going to be fairly technical
I think that's a feature rather than a bug? It would be unwieldy to make people check every Lemmy instance for duplicate communities, but I'll be interested to see how that works out over time since (as you noted) we can look at and join communities outside our home instances
Warm fraternal greetings from the Grand Lodge of Scotland! 🏴
Suspension of privileges (e.g., social or outdoor time) will always be a big one as will the threat of solitary confinement. Beyond officially sanctioned repercussions like those though, inmates could reasonably fear targeted harassment or violence from guards if they are "uncooperative" or "troublemakers"
